Along with November’s best-selling consoles games, NPD has detailed the month’s hardware sales from US retailers. Thanks to the holiday shopping season, each console saw a significant jump that, at least, came close to doubling October sales.
Nintendo’s Wii posted a staggering 2.04 million sales, a one-month record since NPD began its tracking in 2001. Last year, the Wii sold 981,000 over the same period.
Sales of Nintendo DS hardware tripled in the past month, while Microsoft finally made good on its promise to outsell the PlayStation 3 by more than a two-to-one ratio. The PS3 sold 466,000 units in November 2007, but only managed 378,000 this year.
The US console sales for November:
1. Wii – 2.04 million units
2. Nintendo DS – 1.57 million units
3. Xbox 360 – 836,000 units
4. PSP – 421,000 units
5. PlayStation 3 – 378,000 units
6. PlayStation 2 – 206,000 units
“The video games industry continues to set a blistering sales pace, overall, with total month revenues 10% higher than last November, even with 7 less days of post-Thanksgiving shopping this year [over last],” said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
“With $16B realized for the year so far through November, the industry is still on pace to achieve total year revenues of $22B in the U.S.”
The Conduit is Released and despite great reviews, it doesn’t sell too great.
3rd Parties FINALLY Get it Right:
Monster Hunter 3, Dragon Quest X, Deadly Creatures, The Conduit, Arc Rise Fantasia, Final Fantasy, House of the Dead: Overkill and may more titles will all be released next year and the games look amazing. I think that 2009 is going to be the year where 3rd party titles finally get respectable on Wii.
E3 2009:
-A new Mario Party is announced with full online play and will be available for Christmas
-A new Zelda is shown and looks AMAZING
-Star Fox is still missing in action (make me wrong Nintendo!!)
-A Hard Drive still isn’t announced
-A new Mario title is shown and makes a lot of people mad (I don’t know why, I just have a feeling)
-Nintendo DS has a great showing with no successor (besides DSi) shown. Look for more expanded functionality for dual screen system along with a sequel to the uber popular Super Mario Bros.
According to IGN, the upcoming issue of Nintendo Power magazine will feature a preview of a new fighting game starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Ubisoft-published title, which will not be based on a movie or TV show, will be a 4-player 2.5D fighter in the mold of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The development team will consist of many former Team Ninja and Smash Bros. developers, both of which know their way around simulated smackdowns.
Smash Bros., Team Ninja devs working on Wii TMNT fighter
Note to Ubisoft: Remake this game.
The article states that the game has been in development for well over a year, and will feature modes like Story, Battle Royal, Tournament, Practice, and Winner/Loser Stays. The game will also boast a robust online component that should encompass a few of the aformentioned modes, and maybe some others. No characters were confirmed, but we’ll keep Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael in the “probably” pile. In any case, you can be assured that we’ll keep our eyes on this game. Anything that mixes Smash Bros., Ninja Gaiden, and our heroes in a half shell is okay in our books.

CoroCoro magazine details are slowly being released since it’s that time of the month in Japan. First up is the news about the supposed new 5th generation Pokemon that would be revealed in the 12th Pokemon movie. All the evidence seemed to lean that way at least, however it seems now that the supposed “new” Pokemon might just be Pichu. Remember the ear of the “new” Pokemon that we saw in the trailer? Now check out the picture above from CoroCoro magazine and it looks to me like that “new” Pokemon is just a Pichu. Pichu is a small, yellow, electric-type Pokemon after all, which fits the description. Nothing has been confirmed though, so don’t get disappointed just yet.
We also have two rough translations of the 12th movie title: “Toward Conquering the Emptiness of Space-Time” and “Towards The Overcome’s Time Space”. And since Arceus is very likely to be in the movie, its name will probably be added to the title once he is announced, as they have done in the previous movies. CoroCoro also states that we will get new information on the 12th movie at Japan’s World Hobby Fair in late January. But that’s not all! A new Pokemon will be unveiled at the World Hobby Fair as well. That sounds to me like the hidden Pokemon in the trailer is Pichu, however we’re still getting a 5th generation Pokemon in the 12th movie which will be revealed in late January.
And lastly, this bit of news should excite many Pokemon fans. CoroCoro mentions that in their next issue (releases January 15th), we will get details on the next installment on the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series. That’s right, we’re getting some new Mystery Dungeon titles. I enjoyed the DS ones, so I’m really looking forward to the details on the new Mystery Dungeon games. Since these details were leaked out, it’s possible we could get more details in the coming days, including clarification on if Pichu is hidden by the question mark or if it’s another Pokemon. Stay tuned to WiiNintendo for the latest!
UPDATE: PokeBeach got a better translation of the title of the 12th Pokemon movie: “To the Conquering of Space-Time”. Sounds like someone is going to take down Dialga and Palkia… Arceus maybe?
Wii owners have scored themselves another great game. Slowly more series are moving towards being Wii exclusives (at least for a while), like Monster Hunter 3. At a press conference in Japan, it was just announced that Dragon Quest X would be coming to Wii. I’m crossing my fingers for Kingdom Hearts 3 to come to Wii.
Listen in to the podcast and post your thoughts on what we discuss. Please note that the time for recording the podcast will change starting next week and will be earlier in the day so that more people can listen in and participate. We’ll discuss the new time in tonight’s podcast, which should begin around 10 pm eastern time.
Yay, computer issues. Don’t you just love those? College life is also making me pretty busy, which is why this podcast is late. I’m very sorry for the delay. That’s also why tonight is the first podcast that queenzelda will lead so that way they can be put up on time since I’m too busy. Anyways, as this title suggests, this podcast is all about Wii. There was simply so much to discuss about Wii and so there’s plenty of interesting discussions. The podcast crew this time around included me, MOMZ, queenzelda, and hattrick (joins us later in the podcast). We also had our first guest in the podcast, and that’s JumpingGiraffe who is a member of the WiiFuse Forums. And you can even hear MOMZ try and ruin the podcast after the ending music, so enjoy that. Check out an outline of the podcast below.
- Go over this week’s Wii, DS, and Wii Shop Channel releases, the Nintendo Channel updates for the week, as well as what we’ve been playing on Wii and DS
- We discuss upcoming WiiWare titles and the future My Pokemon Ranch update
- Is Rock Band 2 coming this year or not?
- We explore the DS/Mii Channel connectivity
- We talk about the “Play on Wii” DK Jungle Beat and Pikmin titles
- A bunch of Wii and DS trademarks were found and we give our thoughts on them
- The Opera Browser 2.0 update is discussed and we discuss what Wii Speak could possibly be used for in it
- We mention our campaign to help disaster victims, known as “WiiNintendo.net 1UPing Disasters”, and talk about how the Red Cross contacted us showing their support. Look for more on this campaign soon.
We had plenty to talk about, so it’s definitely worth a listen. As usual, had a lot of fun recording the podcast. This podcast clocks in at 1 hour, 6 minutes, and 40 seconds. As always, you can listen to the podcast, download it (file size is 61.0 MB), subscribe to the RSS feed, or subscribe to the podcast on iTunes all at the bottom of this post. If you have trouble finding it on iTunes, it is under the name wiiklyfuse. I subscribed to it on my iPod Touch and it’s fun to go back and listen to the previous shows, so I recommend you do so as well.
Remember to join us on WiiNintendo when we record our next podcast tonight (December 9th) between 9:15 and 9:45 pm eastern time for a live stream of the podcast. Please send us your feedback and any suggestions you may have for future podcasts. We want you to enjoy these podcasts, so please let us know what you want us to discuss. If you have anything more you want to suggest or want to join us for the podcast, you can do one of three things: You can post a comment on this post, you can email me at DarkWish@WiiNintendo.net, or you can post it in the Submission/Suggestion Thread on the WiiFuse forums. I look forward to hearing from you!
Looks like we have a leak on our hands. Earlier today, a listing for the English Version of Pokemon Platinum was present on Circuit City’s website, however it is now gone. Sounds to me like someone put it up there by accident and then later caught their mistake. The listing had the US box art (pictured above), as well as a US release date of March 22nd, which sounds about right. But that’s not all that the listing revealed. Here are some tidbits about the English Version that Circuit Ciy leaked:
- Team Galactic’s scientist “Pluto” has been renamed to “Charon” (In case you didn’t know, Charon is the name of Pluto’s largest moon and I assume was renamed to avoid copyright issues with Disney’s Pluto, like how Team Galaxy was renamed to Team Galactic)
- Detective “Handsome” is now named “Looker”
- The “Ruined World” will be known as the “Distortion World”
- The page mentioned that Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina are the “Legendary Titans”
With Pokemon Platinum coming on March 22nd, we should be getting the 11th movie (“Giratina and the Sky Warrior”) along with Shaymin downloads in the near future.
