The time is almost upon us. BurgerTime World Tour will officially hit the WiiWare store this Thursday, February 9, 2012. This is a title we have been awaiting for quite some time. The PSN and XBLA versions released several months ago, but finally, Wii owners will get to play this re-imagined classic arcade game for just 1000 Wii Points (roughly $10 US).

On top of this, we will be sure to post a review, and we are in talks with MonkeyPaw Games to host some contests and giveaways, so stay tuned!

PRESS RELEASE:

MonkeyPaw Games Announces BurgerTime World Tour Coming To WiiWare™ On February 9th

Peter Pepper is Back in This Tasty Re-invention of the Classic Arcade Puzzler

Hokkaido, Japan – February 8th, 2012 - MonkeyPaw Games Inc. today announced that BurgerTime World Tour will be available February 9th on Nintendo’s WiiWare™ service on Wii™. BurgerTime World Tour is an evolution of the arcade classic, enhanced with an innovative 3D rotating environment. The new BurgerTime experience introduces fresh and meaty additions to the re-imagined franchise. For the very first time, BurgerTime will feature platforming elements that widen the playing field. BurgerTime World Tour will be available worldwide for 1000 Wii Points™ and can be purchased from the Wii Shop Channel.

The evolved platforming-puzzler will follow world-renowned burger chef Peter Pepper in his global quest for culinary domination through expanded levels and one giant adversary. True to his retro roots, Peter Pepper will be tasked with building enormous burgers while running away from wacky food-gone-wild enemies such as Frank Furter the Sausage, Sonny the Egg, and new enemies such as Habba De Niro, the Habanero Pepper. Chef Peter Pepper will need to overcome new obstacles such as giant chasms, wall spikes and a heckuva hungry boss to strategically find the fastest way to put together each burger.

“BurgerTime is a maturation of the arcade classic. The new platforming elements evolve the action into a faster and more challenging experience,” said John Greiner, president and CEO of MonkeyPaw Games. “We’re excited for a new generation of players to try out the game and get a taste of retro evolution.”

The release of BurgerTime World Tour marks 30 years since the original BurgerTime arcade game was released in 1982.A beloved classic that quickly earned the label as one of the best arcade games of all time, BurgerTime increasingly became popular within the growing gaming industry. Now BurgerTime is back and fresher than ever for a much wider gaming audience.

BurgerTime World Tour is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB and will be available on February 9th for worldwide download on WiiWare at the low price of 1000 Wii Points.
In a rather odd turn of events, Nintendo has backed down in their number of games released this week. Only three titles will be added. This is increasingly odd when you stop to think of that other regions are still receiving Wii Virtual Console games, and Japan just increased their 3DS demo section by five this week. Nonetheless, it is often quality over quantity that some people tout in similar situations. It is up for you and I to decide if that is, in fact, the case.

For the 3DS eShop, we get Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword. On DSiWare, GO Series: Undead Storm is added to the growing number of GO Series games. WiiWare increases by one more Carmen Sandiego game with Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Great Gateway Grab. Do any of these get you particularly excited?

Grabbing the “featured” spot away from Carmen Sandiego, an actual game, is the artsy 3D music video, “Down in the Now,” by The Crystal Method, which will be available on February 3 via the Nintendo Video app on 3DS.

As always, check out the price list and official press release below, and be sure to let us know if you download a game/app and what you think.

A review by Jeremy Hardin

Game – Zombii Attack
Version – WiiWare
Obtained – Review Copy courtesy of The Redner Group

There is a Zombii apocacolypse and you must help Dr. Z create a cure with your trusty, oversized slingshot.

Gameplay and Controls
Ok, before I allow myself to rip into this game for how terrible it is I would like to take a few minutes and cover what the game is actually about. First off, the game consists of you at the bottom of the screen safe behind your barricade, which is your only protection. You are armed with a giant slingshot that has tractor beam capabilities, which apparently only work on Zombiis, odd I kn0w.

Your job through all 18 levels is to defend yourself against the undead and use your slingshot to capture ‘x’ amount of different colored zombiis and catapult them up to Dr. Z who is flying around in his helicopter with a basket or some kind of net hanging down. Once you successfully collect the required amount of Zombiis, you complete the level.

Now hold on now, don’t go getting all excited. See, this may sound easy and well truth be told it is. A little too easy. So easy, you’ll be bored to tears because you’ll be staring at the screen so long waiting for the required Zombiis which appear at random and your eyes will be begging for some moisture! So you will cry!

As you can see from the screen above, Dr. Z is one cool customer and he seems really excited to work on that Zombii cure. Honestly, the image of Dr. Z was one of the only things I liked in this game.

I digress. Now, I will get back to the gameplay.

As I mentioned earlier, there are 18 levels in all. Most of the levels require the same concept over and over, collecting Zombiis. However, as the game progresses, the ‘difficulty’ – and I use that term loosely – increases by requiring a higher number of Zombiis to be caught, or by introducing new Zombiis which are stronger, faster and require more hits to kill. Every few levels you will be required to destroy the main building of the stage you are in. For instance, one level had me destroying a museum, a factory, and a gas station. Are you still with me, or have you already gone on to more interesting reviews? Ok, I’ll pretend you’re still here. In addition to a few demolition levels there are a handful of levels in which you will have to steer a car while avoiding the abandoned cars on the road and mowing down the Zombiis.

Now that I’ve gone on about killing Zombiis, I’m sure you’re asking yourself, what kind of ammo do I get to use? Oh well I have your answer right here. The most unusual kind, that’s the answer, save for the rocks. However, before I get into the types of ammo, let me back this up and explain how killing a Zombii earns you cash. I don’t even know how it’s possible but I think Zombiis are stuffed with cash. If that is the case, I want to dig up some dead people, turn them into Zombiis and then kill them for some quick cash. It’s a genius plan! How are we even in an economic crisis right now?! Okay, now that you have all this blood money, what do you do with it, where do you even spend it? Great question! You spend your money at the shop, of course!

As you can see, you can purchase Rocks, Anvils, Tires, Z-Balls (Zombii Bowling Balls), Barrels, Buzz Mines, Dyamite, Anchs(WTH?), and you can reinforce your barricade by leveling it up a total of 3 times.

You control the game by pressing A to launch your selected weapon which can be switched by using the D pad. If you want to snag a Zombii, press B with your cursor over them and you will have a Zombii bullet to use. Yes, you can fire a Zombii at other Zombiis, however it is a very weak weapon. You can also pick up a Zombii in your slingshot and very quickly press A to drop it down and guess what, you succesfully killed a Zombii with very little effort. Your on screen cursor shows you where you are aiming and that’s about it. As far as the driving portions of the game, all you do is steer the car with left and right on your D pad, seriously, that’s it. Moving on!

Visuals and Sounds
If you can’t tell by the couple of screens I’ve included in this review that the graphics are awful, then shame on you! Oh and the graphics are awful (see, I said it twice!) They look worse than some N64 games out there, honestly. The only thing I enjoyed about the sounds was the quirky music but even that gets old fast.

Concluding Overall Impressions
Campy music, cheesy premise, awful graphics and lag oh my! Oh it’s a no-brainer (ha-ha!), you can go ahead and skip over this game. Sigh. I don’t even understand how this game made was approved by Nintendo for the WiiWare service.

Final Score: 1 out of 5

Here we are in the year 2012, and here is another week with a low number of games released. However, just because the number is low does not mean the quality is also low.

This week, we have four new games. Samurai Sword Destiny is a beat-em-up for the 3DS eShop that looks pretty good. Both Quick Fill Q and 3 Heroes – Crystal Soul come to DSiWare with some promise. Zombies make their way to WiiWare in Zombii Attack. And finally, Nintendo decided to announce the Swapnote messaging app for 3DS, even though it came out two weeks ago.

As always, check out the price list and official press release below, and be sure to let us know if you download a game/app and what you think.

There had been some speculation that Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 would not come to WiiWare, despite the fact that Episode 1 did make it to the Nintendo home console. Not only that, it was released on WiiWare before XBLA and PSN, and the game received the best scores on WiiWare (Metacritic 81, compared to 70-74 for iOS, PSN, and XBLA).

Despite all that, all rumors have are confirmed. When asked in the company’s forums, “If episode II will not be available for Wii… then why was Episode I available for Wii,” SEGA’s Ken Balough responded:

The reason Episode I was on the Wii was because we wanted to bring the Sonic 4 saga to the widest possible audience. Episode II unfortunately will not be coming to the Wii – for reasons most people have probably guessed, but that doesn’t mean the SEGA isn’t supporting Nintendo platforms, we have a very strong partnership and will continue to do so.

There you have it. They have not given much of a reason other than a joking answer when “money” was given as a suggested answer to the question before Balough responded. Would they really lose money putting Episode 2 on WiiWare? Would it not sell? At least, as of right now, SEGA does not seem convinced that Sonic on WiiWare will make them any money.

What do you think? Should they put it on WiiWare? Should they pursue the Wii U instead? Should they put it on the 3DS eShop? We want to hear your thoughts.

The 3DS eShop grows by two. VVVVVV has you saving crew members from extinction, and Bionic Commando reminds us of the GameBoy era of action-shooters. DSiWare also gains two new games in a port of the iOS cake-slicing game Cake Ninja and the casino game Slingo Supreme. WiiWare increases by one with the six-player Carmen Sandiego Adventures in Math: The Big Ben Burglary.

Also, if you did not notice yet, Swapnote is also available for your Nintendo 3DS. This free messaging system allows you to send 3D messages to your Friends List. Check it out in your eShop.

As always, check out the price list and official press release below, and be sure to let us know if you download a game/app and what you think.

Could it be? Has Nintendo FINALLY decided to offer us downloadable games as rewards on Club Nintendo? The answer is YES! I've already scored two of the games!

Remember last week when the internet was abuzz with talk of new rewards for Club Nintendo? You know, something about being able to download WiiWare, DsiWare and 3D Classics with your Club Nintendo coins? Ring a bell yet? Of course, we (myself included) all jumped on over to the Club Nintendo website in order to validate these claims and if proven true, reap our just rewards only to be met with a message from Mario stating that Club Nintendo was down. A day later when Club Nintendo was back up and running, at least for me, the new rewards were nowhere to be found. It was obvious that Nintendo was working on the site trying to implement these new rewards, but the question now was how long do we need to wait? Well, thankfully the waiting is done and Club Nintendo has been given a facelift and stocked with some nice new rewards, both physical and electronic.

Head on over to Club Nintendo to check out the new look and the latest rewards, some of which I am listing here below.

Super Mario Kart (SNES, Wii Virtual Console) — 100 coins
3D Classics: Xevious (3DS Download Software) — 100 coins
Fluidity (WiiWare) — 150 coins
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again (DSiWare) — 150 coins

Please take notice before ordering that Mario vs. Donkey Kong will only work on a 3DS as the DSi Shop does not have a redeem code function.

UPDATED WITH PRESS RELEASE

Club Nintendo Facelift Introduces Downloadable Games as Rewards

Nintendo of America’s rewards program has announced a major overhaul of its website and the introduction of downloadable games for loyal Nintendo fans. Now, Club Nintendo™ members who earn enough Coins can redeem them for select downloadable Wii™ and Nintendo 3DS™ games. The revamped site offers members a streamlined online experience and more exciting ways to redeem Coins.

Starting today, Club Nintendo members can exchange 100 Coins for Super Mario Kart™ and 150 Coins for Fluidity on the Wii console. Normally these games are offered at 800 Wii Points™ and 1,200 Wii Points respectively, making this new offer a great value for members. Club Nintendo members also have the option of exchanging 100 Coins for 3D Classics: Xevious® and 150 Coins for Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Minis March Again! for the Nintendo 3DS system. These two games normally sell for $5.99 and $7.99 respectively.

Members will notice the Club Nintendo website has been redesigned with a fun new look. In addition to new Coin-earning opportunities, Nintendo has added new Rewards, including Nintendo-themed notebooks and pen cases, plus a set of limited-edition posters honoring the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda™. Members can also now register select Nintendo 3DS games from third-party publishers, so there are even more ways to earn Coins.

The current round of downloadable game offers will remain available to members through Jan. 10, and new offers will be announced next month. Club Nintendo will choose new games based on members’ feedback on available downloadable games, so they can expect to find more fun surprises in the future. To collect even more Coins, members are encouraged to look back into their library of games for Wii and the Nintendo DS™ family of systems and register those products on Club Nintendo.

For more information about Club Nintendo or to join, visit http://club.nintendo.com.
