A while ago, there was a rumor that the Nintendo 3DS would be getting a second Circle Pad via an attachment to the system. At the time, it seemed ridiculous but I posted it because the source was 01net, the French site that leaked details on Wii U before its reveal. Fast forward to today and Famitsu has begun to leak, and we now have confirmation that the rumor is true… it’s called the “Expansion Circle Pad”.

As you can see from the picture above, the attachment is a replacement for the current charging cradle for the 3DS. The second Circle Pad is to the right of the ABXY buttons and it also features R1, R2, and L2 shoulder buttons (the original R button is covered up by the attachment, but the original L button is still able to be used). No word on the price, release date, or if there will be a re-designed 3DS with the second Circle Pad built-in or not. Here are some additional images of the attachment:

Based on the additional images, there is speculation it could have an extended battery possibly, but that is of course unconfirmed. Expect more news at the upcoming Nintendo 3DS Conference on September 13th in Japan.

First things first… this is a RUMOR. And a HUGE one. Quite honestly, this sounds ridiculous to me and I don’t believe it. Having said that, the source is the French site 01net and they were spot on with their Wii U rumors and apparently on some PlayStation Vita rumors as well. So because of their track record, I thought I’d post this here, but of course… take this with a massive grain of salt.

01net is claiming their source says Nintendo is working on an attachment for the 3DS that will bring a second Circle Pad to the system for approximately $10. How this will work is beyond me, but that’s what they’re claiming. They are also saying that Nintendo is working on a new 3DS that will “radically tone down the whole 3D angle”, involve a new design, and probably will a new name as well. Again, I find this very hard to believe… but I only post rumors from sites with a track record of being right, not just some random junk, so who knows.

01net will be discussing Wii U tomorrow, so perhaps we’ll get more rumors about that then as well. All I know is… things are going to be very interesting in the coming months/years.

[01net]

Note: The above image is a mockup. Also, this article originally stated the new handheld would be without 3D, but I then looked at the English version of the article (I was previously using Google Translate) and they said they will “radically tone down” the 3D, so it appears the 3D may not be gone entirely. I have updated the article to reflect that change.

UPDATE 2: According to Nintendo World Report, Kirby will most likely hit, while Super Mario Advance 4 is a probable for the no category. The only thing we know for sure is that Nintendo plans on giving us the full list around the time of the price drop (August 12).

UPDATE: According to the Official Nintendo Magazine (ONM), we have confirmation that both of these titles are on the list of free games.

According to a recent email from supposed Nintendo Customer Support, Super Mario Advance 4 and Kirby & The Amazing Mirror will also be a part of the 3DS Ambassador program. If we can believe this is true, those who purchase a 3DS and connect to the eShop at least once before the price drop on August 12, you will get these two games for free in addition to the ten already mentioned.

Something interesting to note are the typos, though. That could prove or disprove the validity of this email, depending on how you look at it. For instance, maybe the SMA4 is also a typo, as we know that SMA3 has already been confirmed. Only time will tell. For now, we’ll keep this filed under the rumor mill.

One can only guess what this image might mean. It seems as though we have some speculation as to what the game is now, thanks to andriasang.com and the latest issue of Famitsu.

Cattle Call, developer of such games as Metal Max 3 and Space Invaders Get Even, is working on a unique new 3DS simulation game for Namco Bandai. Titled Brave Company, the new game is revealed on the pages of this week’s Famitsu.

In Brave Company, you play as the CEO of a hero dispatch agency. You’ll have to interview potential heroes, hire them, and send them out to the city to protect the peace. As you advance in the game, both your company and the city will grow.

Hero types include knights, archers, priests and wizards. If you send out a hero that’s better suited to a particular quest, you’ll have a better chance of success.

Brave Company features music from Prof. Sakamoto, image visual work from Tomomi Kobayashi (SaGa series), and character designs from Foo Midori (official site).

A 3DS release is set for October 27. An iOS version is also due in August.

A member of the NeoGAF forums supposedly got hold of a list that shows future games, and some to be revealed at E3 this coming week. One of the games on this list was Super Mario Wii 2! This makes me especially excited seeing as how much I love Mario games. Could this possibly be a way to hold off eager fanboys such as myself from Project Café? If so, it just might work. More to come this Tuesday, stay tuned as NintendoFuse will be bringing you the latest in E3 coverage!

It is official. The next Nintendo home console has been announced by Nintendo. What it will look like, what will be inside, and how one will control the device is still up in the air. However, that does not stop us from speculating. On top of that, it is quite difficult to ignore the long list of rumors regarding this upcoming game system.

Speaking of rumors, there were many surrounding the Wii, back when it was only known as Revolution. As we gear up for the official unveiling of Nintendo’s next home console, the successor to Wii, we thought it would be interesting to look back at the list of Revolution/Wii rumors. Did any of them did not pan out, and how many of them have resurfaced as a “Project Cafe” rumor? Let’s take a look.

Launch price of $99
QuickJump reported on Joystiq’s launch price claims. Even then, people were not sure. Today, we still have yet to see the Wii hit $99, as the latest price-drop only took it down to $149.

3D Projection
While we know that Nintendo has been looking into 3D for a long time, it seems that many thought Revolution would have a 3D element. If you could not tell, it did not happen.

Controller to feature tactile feedback
There were many rumors that the Revolution controller would feature tactile feedback and even hot/cold feedback. While this did not find its way into the final controller, that has not stopped technology from trying it out. Will it eventually be seen?

Controller to look like GameCube’s “Wavebird”
This rumor was based on an alleged prototype. According to the source, the A/B/X/Y buttons would look similar to a SNES, and it would feature no gyroscope or touch screen. Maybe this was a prototype for the Wii Classic Controller, or maybe this person was making it up.

Touch-Screen Controller
With the success of the Nintendo DS, many rumors stated that the Revolution would have touch-screen controllers. That did not happen, obviously, but that does not stop the rumors from resurfacing for the successor.

Gyroscopic sensors in controllers, not wireless
This one comes from the Nintendo forums. Neither ended up being true, as the gyroscope was not added until Motion Plus, and the Wii Remote is definitely wireless bluetooth enabled.

Controller to have Magnetic touch panel, Tilt Sensor, Scroll Wheel, Push Pull Joysticks, Sensitive Pad, Rumble, Microphone/Speaker, & a Screen
On this huge list of features said to be included, only two and a half actually saw the light of day. The Wii Remote does include a tilt sensor, rumble, and speaker. The Wii successor, though, is rumored to include most of the missing elements.

HD-DVD format for games
This one obviously did not turn out, and neither did the success of the HD-DVD format anyhow. Instead, Nintendo went with a 12cm optical disc for their games, which is very similar to a standard DVD.

Launching with Mario
The launch of the Wii was missing Mario. Instead, we got The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, which also released for the GameCube months later.

Controller would not feature a traditional D-Pad or “A” and “B” buttons
Shuken Diamond got this one wrong, as the Wii Remote featured a D-Pad and A/B buttons. Yes, they were in different locations than we were used to, but they were still present in the end.

Four 2.5Ghz IBM G5 Custom CPU
While that would have been one powerful system, GamesIndustry.biz was a bit off, because the Wii ended up with a, IBM Broadway, which is only a 729mhz CPU. For reference, the GameCube had a 485mhz processor.

Virtual space & head-tracking based on fixation points
While many have tried this post-launch, Nintendo never implemented anything like this in the Wii. Since then, we have seen only Microsoft’s Kinect and the Nintendo 3DS really explore this technology.

What will the Wii successor (Project Cafe?) look like, and how will it function? We hope to find all those answers at E3 2011. Until then, expect many more rumors regarding every aspect of the system. As before, with the Revolution/Wii, do not believe everything you read.

Did we leave anything out? If so, please leave a note in the comments.
