Interactive Entertainment announces plans to create the next Scribblenauts for Nintendo DS, a follow-up to the revolutionary hit videogame where players use their imagination to write any word bring that object to life and use it to solve puzzles.  Available in fall 2010, the follow-up game expands the innovative elements from the acclaimed first title with many inventive new features, including an adjectives system that allows players to push the limits of their imagination to create their own experience.

In this new game created and developed by 5TH Cell, players use the stylus and touch screen to help Maxwell, the game’s hero, acquire the “Starite,” the prize earned from solving the puzzle in even more robust challenges and redesigned levels.  Players now have the ability to write any object that comes to mind and modify it in any way they desire using adjectives to reach the goal in each level.  Adjectives can change the color, size, elements, behaviors and many other aspects of the object they are describing. Multiple adjectives can be combined together to produce incredibly creative objects, allowing the player’s imagination to run wild for a truly unique and individualistic experience.

GAME OVERVIEW:

The drama unfolds in The Bachelor: The Videogame, the new Wii and DS adaptations of the hit ABC reality series!  Hosted by Chris Harrison, the real-life host of the TV series, players will compete in a collection of fun mini-game date challenges for a shot at romance. Success is measured with every date as players compete to win the attention and ultimately the heart of the Bachelor or Bachelorette. But beware, opponents can sabotage others’ dates and prevent them from receiving a rose or ring!

In The Bachelor: The Videogame, players compete for one of five Bachelors and five Bachelorettes based on real-life Bachelors and Bachelorettes from the TV series.  Players can choose from a selection of avatars that best suits their personality. In single player mode, the game is structured like the TV show. It is comprised of multiple “episodes” where the player competes against the game characters for time alone with the Bachelor or Bachelorette. The Wii version offers multiplayer mode for a fun party game enabling players to compete against their “frenemies.” Opponents can sabotage others’ dates and prevent them from receiving a rose!

During each “season” or game, contestants go on a variety of Group Dates and a One-On-One Date to earn hearts. These dates include fun challenges, puzzles and mini-games, which test skills such as memory, speed, observation and precision. At the conclusion of each “season,” players will participate in the rose ceremony, where the Bachelor or Bachelorette must take into account the number of hearts that each competitor gained throughout the dates. Who will receive the Final Rose and who will be eliminated? Stay tuned to find out!

Interactive Entertainment announces Galactic Taz Ball, a new videogame for the Nintendo DS™ starring Taz, the frenetically fantastic Looney Tunes character beloved by all. The game will be available in Europe and Australia May 2010 and in North America Fall 2010.

In Galactic Taz Ball, Taz is accidentally kidnapped by Marvin the Martian who’s stealing the Earth’s landscape to make Mars more scenic. Taz must spin his way across pieces of Earth floating in space to stop Marvin from destroying the planet and get back home.

The game contains two worlds with completely different gameplay mechanics. The “Overworld” is an action-style 3-D game playable on the Nintendo DS top screen with unique track ball controls using the stylus on the bottom screen. When Taz moves fast enough he becomes a tornado that can destroy objects and enemies. The “Underworld” is a side-scrolling puzzle game played on the bottom touch screen in which Taz navigates a maze of active machinery and gadgets.  Both worlds combine for a uniquely fun and frenetic journey, perfect for Taz’s wild style.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey is a console role-playing game developed by Atlus for the Nintendo DS. It is a title within the Megami Tensei series of video games, and was released in Japan on October 8, 2009. A North American release is scheduled for March 23, 2010.

Setting
At the beginning of the 21st century, a sudden massive atomic collapse occurs in the South Pole and causing a space abnormality known as the “Schwarzwelt”, which poses an imminent threat for humankind and the Earth. A mysterious black hole has appeared on the region of the South Pole and is expanding day by day. Concerned of this event, the United Nations sent a group of researchers from all over the world to investigate the area. Inside, the investigators found that the area has been infested with supernatural beings such as demons that threaten to cross into the world.

Characters
The player assumes an unnamed soldier from Japan (America in the North American release), who will be working with three other crew members of the Red Sprite., Commander Gore, leads the crew, while Jimenez, an experienced, reward-seeking American researcher, and Zelenin, a knowledgeable Russian scientist work together with the player. The crew dons the Demonica suit, which enables access to abilities as well as regulating the player to the conditions within the Schwarzwelt.

Introduction
Along with various other toys created with young girls in mind, Littlest Pet Shop has been around for quite some time.  The jump to digital game distribution was a while back, but more recently, the little pets have moved onto the download scene with Littlest Pet Shop for the Nintendo DSiWare service.

Gameplay
Essentially, you get 3 pets – a dog at first, but you will soon unlock the other 2 (rabbit and horse) by completing games.  In order to unlock these other 2 pets and various clothing options for your pet, you must play and master 3 main games.  The first is a throwing game where you flick an item through various hoops.  The second is a music based rhythm game, similar to Elite Beat Agents (but not as good) where you draw on dotted lines while music plays.  The final game has you matching a clothing outfit – you get to see it, but then it disappears, requiring you to remember what it was and dress your pet like that. The only other part of the game allows you to interact with your pet in 3 ways: feeding, petting, and brushing.

Controls
The entirety of the game is played using the touch screen. Because this is essentially a mini-game collection (albeit small), it is necessary to compare.  None of the games have names, so for the sake of the review, let us call them the tossing game, music game, and clothing game.  The tossing game has you grabbing an item (different for every animal) and tossing it through hoops placed around the screen. This is ridiculously simple, but the controls are usually spot-on. The music game is not as easy, mainly due to the controls. While the countdown timer does make it tough, it seems the game sometimes did not recognize my gestures.  The clothing game is simple and straightforward in its approach. Due to that, it is hard to go wrong on controls.  You simply tap the left or right arrow, and then click the checkmark.  Overall, there are no qualms about the controls. They are simple and easy.

Visuals & Sound
The game’s visuals follow the bright colors and cartoon-like approach of Littlest Pet Shop.  There is not much to the visual presentation, as much of the game takes place on one screen, only switching when you go to a new game or menu.  The majority of the gameplay also takes place on one screen (the bottom), and the top usually just states the score and pet name. The animals sound similar to their real-life counterparts, and the music is also bright and fun.  Designed with the young girl in mind, visuals and sound are bound to capture the intended audience.

Concluding Overall Impressions
While Littlest Pet Shop might not be a game I will go to over and over, it does seem to have an appeal to younger female gamers, especially fans of the franchise.  My only complaints lie in the length of the game, as I was able to finish around 85-90% of the game in only 1 hour.  Maybe if each pet had a different set of mini-games, it would have made it longer.  With that in mind, I am not sure it is worth the 800 Points.  Littlest Pet Shop will keep your 7 year old entertained for a couple hours, but they will soon move on to something more entertaining.

KIDS ARE GOING TO FLIP FOR NEW FLIPS TITLES ON NINTENDO DSi

EA TO LAUNCH SIX NEW INTERACTIVE BOOK TITLES WORLDWIDE; FIRST TITLE ALREADY AVAILABLE IN EUROPEAN DSiWARE STORE

EA today announced that it will release six individual FLIPS titles between now and summer 2010 for the Nintendo DSi.  This new wave of titles, exclusively available as digitally downloadable content for the Nintendo DSi, is also slated to come to North American DSiWare Store, making it the first interactive kids’ book series to become available on the popular handheld platform in North America.

The first title in the 2010 wave, FLIPS Terror in Cubicle Four,  is available now in Europe and will launch March 1^st in the U.S.  The first title from the popular “Too Ghoul For School” collection by B. Strange, FLIPS Terror in Cubicle Four will enable children to interact with the story in a completely new way, from collecting items to unlock bonus content, to exploring pop-up character information and spooky sound effects, to using the Nintendo DSi camera to put themselves in the story.
