Recently, 3DS owners were treated to another FREE application. Of course, I’m talking about Swapnote! With the recent release of Swapnote, users have been drawing all kinds of great notes, funny, serious, odd whatever. Some have even chosen to use it as a free means of advertising. Case in point, I have on my friends list a user by the name of Alex. He has frequented our forums in the past and Alex draws his own webcomic, The Other Side of the Flagpole. He reached out to me via a very nice Swapnote message, as you can see below. If you like The Other Side of the Flagpole, be sure to LIKE their Facebook page.

Could it be? Has Nintendo FINALLY decided to offer us downloadable games as rewards on Club Nintendo? The answer is YES! I've already scored two of the games!

Remember last week when the internet was abuzz with talk of new rewards for Club Nintendo? You know, something about being able to download WiiWare, DsiWare and 3D Classics with your Club Nintendo coins? Ring a bell yet? Of course, we (myself included) all jumped on over to the Club Nintendo website in order to validate these claims and if proven true, reap our just rewards only to be met with a message from Mario stating that Club Nintendo was down. A day later when Club Nintendo was back up and running, at least for me, the new rewards were nowhere to be found. It was obvious that Nintendo was working on the site trying to implement these new rewards, but the question now was how long do we need to wait? Well, thankfully the waiting is done and Club Nintendo has been given a facelift and stocked with some nice new rewards, both physical and electronic.

Head on over to Club Nintendo to check out the new look and the latest rewards, some of which I am listing here below.

Super Mario Kart (SNES, Wii Virtual Console) — 100 coins
3D Classics: Xevious (3DS Download Software) — 100 coins
Fluidity (WiiWare) — 150 coins
Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Minis March Again (DSiWare) — 150 coins

Please take notice before ordering that Mario vs. Donkey Kong will only work on a 3DS as the DSi Shop does not have a redeem code function.

UPDATED WITH PRESS RELEASE

Club Nintendo Facelift Introduces Downloadable Games as Rewards

Nintendo of America’s rewards program has announced a major overhaul of its website and the introduction of downloadable games for loyal Nintendo fans. Now, Club Nintendo™ members who earn enough Coins can redeem them for select downloadable Wii™ and Nintendo 3DS™ games. The revamped site offers members a streamlined online experience and more exciting ways to redeem Coins.

Starting today, Club Nintendo members can exchange 100 Coins for Super Mario Kart™ and 150 Coins for Fluidity on the Wii console. Normally these games are offered at 800 Wii Points™ and 1,200 Wii Points respectively, making this new offer a great value for members. Club Nintendo members also have the option of exchanging 100 Coins for 3D Classics: Xevious® and 150 Coins for Mario vs. Donkey Kong™: Minis March Again! for the Nintendo 3DS system. These two games normally sell for $5.99 and $7.99 respectively.

Members will notice the Club Nintendo website has been redesigned with a fun new look. In addition to new Coin-earning opportunities, Nintendo has added new Rewards, including Nintendo-themed notebooks and pen cases, plus a set of limited-edition posters honoring the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda™. Members can also now register select Nintendo 3DS games from third-party publishers, so there are even more ways to earn Coins.

The current round of downloadable game offers will remain available to members through Jan. 10, and new offers will be announced next month. Club Nintendo will choose new games based on members’ feedback on available downloadable games, so they can expect to find more fun surprises in the future. To collect even more Coins, members are encouraged to look back into their library of games for Wii and the Nintendo DS™ family of systems and register those products on Club Nintendo.

For more information about Club Nintendo or to join, visit http://club.nintendo.com.

Careful, some spoilers…

After reading about this glitch on multiple forums, it seems this glitch is now being brought to Nintendo’s attention and they are acknowledging that indeed it is a bug.

There a game-breaking glitch that can occur during the Song of the Hero quest. It can halt your progress in the game and force you to start over.

IGN wrote:

Nintendo has responded to this complaint by isolating exactly what causes it to happen. Apparently the bug is triggered if you complete the Lanayru Desert portion of this quest first, then speak with Golo the Goron in Lanayru Mine, then complete the quest and receive that portion of the song, then go back to the mine and speak with Golo once more.

Doing all of these things locks the other two portions of the quest, preventing you from progressing in the game. Unless you have an earlier save file, this means having to start the adventure over. Considering this quest occurs rather late in the game, this is a tragic bug indeed for poor players who encounter it.

We’ve reached out to Nintendo to see if a patch will be released to fix this problem, we’ll update this story as we find out more. In the meantime, avoiding this issue is actually pretty easy. Just don’t talk to your Goron buddy more than once during that part. Or, even better, go for one of the other two portions of the quest first. Either of these will avoid the bug, but we certainly suggest just saving the Lanayru Desert mission for second or third. After all, it’s hard to pass up a lonely, chatty Goron.

[IGN]

I personally encountered a major glitch during a boss battle in Skyward Sword, I had to restart the Wii for it to fix itself and if I had not have saved recently that could have been very frustrating, have a look at the glitch and remember to save before you fight this battle.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyword Sword – Major Glitch (Spoilers)

When battling the boss (Abyssal Leviathan – “Tentalus”) after going after Nayru’s Flame on the Sandship I encountered a glitch.

What should happen is that Tentalus should knock the ship in such a way that the block falls down and Link can climb to the upper deck for the final moments of the battle.

When I captured this footage, that never happened. Essentially the game kicked into the final stages of the battle before moving to the top, which lead to a stalemate.

I believe this occurred because I kept using my Bow/Arrow to hit his eye when he fell instead of my sword.

I’m fortunate that I save a lot, so I had to reset the Wii and do it all over. If you did not save during the Sandship stage or prior… ouch.

Normal Boss Battle:
You’ll notice how the battle moves to the upper deck around 5:20 after using the sword.

Mario Kart 7 – Tips

- Tanooki Tail – You can use the tail to hit green shells shot at you to hit them back in any direction.
- Just before getting hit with a blue shell, put on the breaks. That way the coins you lose will be out in front of you to recollect after losing them from the hit.
- Collect 10 coins while racing to gain a small boost during the race.
- Hit jump when going over small hills when you hit the peak for a small boost.
- If you’re in first and a blue shell is coming at you and you see that 2nd (or even 3rd) place driver is behind you, slow down so that the blue shell impact hurts them as well.
- Turbo Boost after an accident: The second Lakitu puts you back on the track press Y or A at the moment of touchdown for a boost.
- Add Opponent Mii’s to your 3DS: Turn Invitations to “On” in Mario Kart 7 and all Mii’s you race against online go to your Mii Plaza
- Turbo Boost at the beginning of the race: This has been a staple of Mario Kart games since SNES, but if you don’t know when the countdown light is about to hit the final light hold down the gas and you’ll get a boost.

The competition is now over. Check out the winners on our forum thread. For detailed high scores, head to each week’s thread in the forums (links at the bottom of this post). Thanks to all who competed, and congratulations to all our winners!

As the title suggests, we here at NintendoFuse wanted to host a friendly, little hi-scores competition for all you 3DS Ambassadors. Of course, little did we know that what we thought would be a simple little contest turned out to be freaking HUGE! So, without further ado,

Let’s do it!

Since there are 10 NES games available for you Ambassadors, we have decided to split the competition out over the course of 6 weeks. Every Sunday morning, we will inform you of which games are eligible for the hi-score competition that week. Our first week of the hi-score competition will begin this Sunday, October 16, 2011 and will run until Saturday October 22, 2011 @ 11:59 pm. As to which games you will be competing in, well you need to wait until Sunday morning to find that out.

Okay, now we’re going to get into prizes/winnings so pay close attention.

PRIZES

We have several prizes to give away over the course of these 6 weeks. Some of the prizes include DS, 3DS and Wii games, figurines, shirts, misc swag and well, there’s more.

You will have until midnight (EST) the following Sunday to get your entries in on our forums. Each week, the top 3 hi-scores submitted will be our winners.

You are eligible to win every week, if you are willing to put the time into each game.

At the end of the contest, we, the staff here at NintendoFuse will take the 3 winners from each week and determine who are to be the GRAND PRIZE WINNERS using a method of our choice*. Yes, you read that correctly. Not only can you win FREE stuff for 6 weeks in a row, you can also be eligible to win one of our GRAND prizes! All you have to do is play some games, register on our forums and post your scores! How incredibly easy and fun is that?!

Are you ready for these GRAND prizes that I speak of? Okay, here goes. Feast your eyes on these!

You must register on our forums (it’s free!)

Entries must be in the form of either a video or a picture.

All entries must clearly show your 3DS unit, the hi-score screen, and we must be able to clearly see the hi-score. Please make sure you include a slip of paper with your screen name on it in the photo. See below for a good example.

Stay tuned and be alert. Check back here and/or the forum post on Sunday October 16, 2011 to find out what games you will be competing in first!

Coffee Beans
Do you know that FPS games are horrible on the Wii? Do you know that the Wii is for kids, and Nintendo fanboys stuck in the 80s and 90s? Do you know that when it comes to FPS games on home consoles, graphics matter more than actual game-play?
Well, if you do not know these things, you should go read more sites like IGN, Destructoid, Joystiq, and basically every “modern” game site that exists that doesn’t contain the word “Nintendo” in its title, and you will become well versed in “modern game language” and the understanding that graphics trump game-play, AND that Nintendo is for the kids!

While there are many video game “journalists” that seem to think the words “Wii FPS” do not belong together(and to some those words might not even exist), as evidenced by their written opinions in reviews and articles, I think they are 100% wrong.
I digress!
GoldenEye 007 was released on November 2, 2010 and Conduit 2 was released on April 19, 2011. Conduit 2 received an overall lower “professional” review score average, so does it appear from reported game-play data thatConduit 2 is not as enjoyable as GoldenEye 007, proving that the “professionals’” opinions were right? Let’s take a look!

escapeVektor™: Chapter 1 is a retro styled arcade game for WiiWare™ in which the player controls Vektor, an entity trapped inside the player’s CPU. Each level consists of a series of interconnected lines which form cells. These are claimed as Vektor moves along them. Claiming all of the cells in a level unlocks the exit to the next level, bringing Vektor closer to his escape.

However, this is no ordinary CPU. It has held Vektor captive for what feels like an eternity and it doesn’t want him to leave now. As Vektor progresses with his escape, the CPU sets up obstacles and sends out its army to destroy him.

We told you about about those dumb Patrols in the first part of our escapeVektor: Chapter 1 feature. We also described the dangerous Electric Fences and Cannons, not to mention Vektor’s useful Boost ability. Now it’s time to find out about another enemy and see how you get Vektor out of there.

Hunters
Hunters are much more intelligent than Patrols. They will search the whole level in their attempt to track you down. They’re not fully awake when they spawn though and may just pick the wrong direction when chasing you. But as they start to wake up, they become more alert and are more likely to track you down, so there’s no room for complacency when dealing with these tricky enemies.

Hunters are sometimes spawned by passing through a switch, so think about which parts of a level you complete first. Spawning a hunter early in a level means he’ll be chasing you while you’re dealing with everything else that’s going on. Waiting until you’ve nearly completed the level before triggering the Hunter is far more tactical. However, if you’re an adrenalin junkie who likes white knuckle rides, go ahead, and spawn the Hunters early. Just don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Exits
Once you’ve claimed all of the cells in a level, you’ll trigger the exit and every enemy will be destroyed. Enemies respawn though, some of them very quickly, so you might just find yourself in trouble even on your way to the exit. Try to make sure you’re not over an enemy spawn point when the exit has been triggered. All of your hard work may have been in vain if a rapidly spawning enemy destroys you on your way out.

Hidden Areas
Sometimes triggering an exit will also unlock a hidden area in a level. Completing these areas will trigger a second exit which will lead to a different level; sometimes a level with a timed challenge or occasionally a shortcut to one of the later levels of the game. If you choose to enter one of these later levels, be prepared for the difficulty to ramp up significantly!

Unlocking Vektor’s Memories
Vektor has been locked inside the CPU for so long that he’s forgotten how he got there in the first place. Moving through the CPU will help him unlock his memories so you need to make sure you get through all of the levels. If your strategy is to get to the final level as quickly as you can through the hidden exits, be sure to go back and complete the levels you skipped so that all Vektor’s memories are unlocked.

Badges
There are 40 Badges to collect in the game. We don’t want to give away too much at this stage but you’re going to have to be pretty damned dedicated to get them all. Just sayin’…

Medals
Your score at the end of each level will determine whether you win a medal or not. The time you take to complete the level is an important factor in the score so don’t worry if you initially don’t get a platinum medal in the early levels. Once you unlock Boost, go back and have another try. You’ll find it easier to get a higher score.

If you win a bronze or silver medal, you’ve certainly got the hang of things. You’ll need to be little more adept to win a gold medal though, and downright professional to even get a look at a platinum. Be warned, we’ve set the bar high!
Which path will you choose to take? Whatever it is, watch out for these Hunters and try not to let that CPU get the upper hand.

In the next part of our escapeVektor: Chapter 1 feature, we’ll tell you about the most dangerous enemies, the Interceptors. Meanwhile, have a look at this video to see just what these Hunters are really like.
