Gameplay and Controls
Robot Rescue 2 is a logic game in which you control a group of robots, as you lead them to the exit door(s) through 60 increasingly difficult levels. The twist here is that the robots share linked controls, so moving one moves them all, making your trek to the exit that much more difficult. The levels are overlaid with a grid to help you better visualize your moves ahead of time. To play the game, you must turn your DSi or 3DS on its side as the levels span both screens. To mix it up a bit and ramp up the challenge, the levels will have color machines which change the color of your robots, conveyor belts, mines, electrical traps, color coded teleporters, barriers, switches and more! You control your robots using either the circle pad or the d-pad. The touch screen is really only used on the menu and level select screen. The robots control really well however, make sure you don’t hold down in a certain direction for too long because your robot will respond in a continuous movement which could result in death. If you happen to kill off one of your robots the whole level will restart within a second or two. On the other hand, if you see that you’ve made one too many bad moves you can press Start and press A to restart the level.
Visuals and Sound
The visuals and sounds are both pretty good. The animations are simple, yet satisfying. I mean how can you not appreciate seeing the mouth/lips wiggling about each time you move? Seriously, it looks as though your robot is traveling at breakneck speeds and his mouth and lips are blown open by the wind and you can see his teeth. It’s kind of comical if you stop to notice it. It’s difficult for me to describe the soundtrack – it has a techno vibe to it, is simple, but never gets old. You can easily pick it up as you play and you just might catch yourself humming along or even just making the sames noises. The sound effects are good as well, although nothing really stands out to me, good or bad.
Concluding Overall Impressions
If you are into cerebral puzzle games, Robot Rescue 2 is definitely one to add to your library. At the low, low price of $2 you’ll be getting a fairly lengthy game, full of fun and challenging gameplay.
Final Score: 4 out of 5
