Reminder: Video Games Live PBS Special airs TONIGHT!!! July 30, 2010
UPDATE: It is now over. If you missed it, it will be aired throughout the month of August, if your local PBS station is airing it. Having just watched it, I must say that it was pretty cool. The music sounded fantastic and it captured the feel of the show as much as a TV recording could (it’s obviously not the same as being there live). Very awesome, so definitely watch if you can!
It was back in October, that we interviewed Tommy Tallarico (co-creator, co-host of Video Games Live) for our Nintendo Fuse Podcast. He revealed to us that they were doing a PBS Special, and ever since that day I have been super excited to finally watch it on TV. Well folks, the wait is finally over! The Video Games Live PBS Special is airing TONIGHT! If you want to know when it’s airing in your area, check your TV Guide as it differs depending on where you live.
What can you expect tonight? Having seen Video Games Live twice, I can tell you that hearing video game music played live by an orchestra with the video and lights alongside it is simply stunning. There’s nothing else like it. Tonight, you can experience the music of the Mario, Zelda, Sonic, Halo, Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Castlevania, God of War, Civilization, Chrono Cross, StarCraft and Guitar Hero franchises, including a musical journey through classic gaming. If you can’t watch it tonight, it will re-air throughout the month of August. Plus, you can order the CD, DVD, or Blu-Ray exclusively through PBS, or at retail locations after November 1st. The CD features 16 musical performances, and the DVD/Blu-Ray includes more than three hours of bonus material, including additional and extended music segments, composer and game developer interviews, exclusive game trailers, “making the game” documentaries, behind-the-scenes footage and composer commentary.
There’s no excuse… if the Video Games Live PBS Special is airing in your area tonight, then you just have to watch it. This is the chance to see music from video games finally being appreciated and the chance to hear your favorite music like never before. So watch it tonight and let us know what you thought! It's not airing in Philadelphia… Anyone going to tape it?
The VGL website says it's airing in Philadelphia on August 3rd at 10 pm, but I highly doubt that's the only showing. The VGL website tells me it's not airing where I live today, the PBS website says it's airing today for me at like 10 pm, and my TV guide says it's airing today at 6:30 pm. So if I were you, I'd check your TV Guide and double check. I wouldn't trust the websites' listings. Hopefully it does air at 6:30 pm for me here like the guide says.
