Red Steel 2 – First 20 Min. + Impressions

A few people have gotten their hands on Red Steel 2 and the impressions are out:

“Just finished it today, spent a lot of time looking for secret stuff and yeah I enjoyed it a lot. Like NMH2 it got repetitive at times but not as much as that game.

Worth buying for sure though, definitely a game I’ll play again and again. At times it made me yearn for a true sequel to XIII.

Ubisoft should get the same team to do that.”

“Loving the game so far, the modern western Japanese theme is interesting, it does look pretty and runs nice n smooth.

You do dead or alive looking missions on the board for cash to improve your sword and learn new skills, you can get extra cash by destroying barrel and phone booths, shooting locked crates etc.”

“The sword part is ok, not as responsive as i hoped and does have a delay to it, but you can costumize the sensitivity of it and all. First impressions are that is mission based and you find yourself moving back and forward on the same areas and that seems to be getting repetitive and got me bored after 3 missions . Anyway its a good game and the reason i got the motion plus on the first place. “

“Just played the first few missions. And I have to say, i’m liking what I see so far.
Also love the graphic style. “

“I approached this game with a lot of mixed feelings. It looked great, but it was also coming as the spiritual successor to a game with major flaws, major enough that it ruined the game. After playing it for a few hours, I can say this game is honestly great. Third party devs should look no further than this for examples of high quality gaming. It provides both excellent sword and gun play, while offering an adventure full of side missions, unlockables, and collectibles, all wrapped in a high production value package.”

“The controls feel great and I like, that there is no weapon-selection. This makes everything very intuitive. The game feels and looks great! “

“Having played a few levels of Red Steel 2, the game that I heaped all my hopes of M+ onto, I have to say I prefer the sword fighting in Wii Sports Resort. Blocking seems more important and strategic in WSR, you have to move your sword in the correct direction to block the attack. In Red Steel 2, you just press “A” to block, how you hold your sword is seemingly irrelevant (at least in the first few levels, let me know if this changes.)

Add the terrible voice acting and cheesy story, and I have to say I much prefer Wii Sports Resort.

That’s not to say RS2 is a bad game, it’s by all means decent. I love the art style, the atmosphere, and the control options. I’d give it a mid 70′s or low 80′s score. I was just hoping for something incredible that took the FPS genre in a new direction.”

“I think the game is AMAZING!!!

The controls are beautiful. So smooth, and simple. The combo’s are amazing, the graphics/artstyle is incredible.

I’m a few hours in, and I have a feeling the game is going to only be 6 hours, but I don’t care.

Ubisoft deserves my $60.

I’d give it a 9.0-9.3. “
