How Tony Hawk Ruined Christmas
True/Slant’s Paul Tassi tells us why Tony Hawk is this years grinch:
There are many anti-Christmas figures that set out to ruin the holiday for children in popular mythology. There’s most notably the Grinch, who steals present from little ones, causing them to rely instead on “Christmas spirit” to be happy. There’s Ebenezer Scrooge who denies health care to his employees so their children actually die of polio. And there’s the burglars from Home Alone, not content to let a little boy spend Christmas alone and undisturbed in a giant house because his family doesn’t love him.
But this Christmas, I discovered a new villain, one that actually used to be a pretty great friend.
People are buying this game because they think the idea actually sounds pretty cool. They’re upset when they find out they’ve paid $120 for a very high tech doorstop and an otherwise unplayable Wii game.
So Tony Hawk almost ruined Christmas, but fortunately there was the generous spirits of Wii Sports, Call of Duty and Dance Dance Revolution to swoop in and save the day. Here’s to hoping Hawk’s heart grows three sizes larger and he starts making fun, playable games once again.
