You may remember my top 5 from last Thanksgiving.  Well, I’ve decided to do it again.  However, because it was difficult to narrow it down to 5, I have done a top 10.  The main requirements for this list was the level of fun and that it had to allow at least 4-players.  I hope this can help bring your family and friends together as you gather around this Thanksgiving and after.  In my opinion, this top 10 list contains games that everyone should be able to jump in and have fun.  Honestly, that’s what gaming should be about — having fun. With that being said, here’s my “Top 10 Wii Family Games for Thanksgiving 2009.”

10. Carnival Games
While many would consider this “shovel-ware,” I have heard from many children and families that this is quite fun.  It is also easy to pick up and play, making it easy for your grandma or great-aunt Bessie to get in the action.

9. Bomberman Blast
This WiiWare game boasts 8-players simultaneously, as long as you have 4 Wii Remotes and 4 GameCube Controllers. In a frantic, no-hold-barred game of throwing bombs at each other, you are bound to have fun while also having a chance to get even with that cousin you really like.

8. WarioWare: Smooth Moves
As long as your family and friends are willing to let loose and have fun, this game will keep everyone entertained — even those not playing. The great benefit to Smooth Moves is that you can play up to 12 players, utilizing one Wii Remote.

7. Hasbro Family Game Night 1 & 2 (tie)
Combining classic board games and the Wii console is a great way to get the family around the TV. Appropriately named, either of these games promise a fun time for all. The first one contains Connect 4, Boggle, Yahtzee, and Battleship. The second contains Connect 4×4, Operation, Jenga, Bop-It, and Pictureka.

6. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games
With the Winter Olympics right around the corner, Mario and Sonic are ready to help you get your family ready. Team up or play against each other as you play games like skiing, bobsleigh, ice hockey, snowboard, figure skating, and curling. You can also import your Mii into the action and use the Balance Board.

5. Tetris Party
Maybe your family is different than mine, but I remember spending hours playing Tetris on my Game Boy with my parents when I was younger, and I’m serious about hours. We’d compete to see who could get the high score. This was often the way we passed time during long car rides. With this recent WiiWare addition, you can not only play 4 players locally, you can enjoy this game with family who couldn’t make it for this year’s Thanksgiving by playing online. You can also play with the Balance Board, creating a brand new experience.

4. Guitar Hero & Rock Band (tie)
Both games have broadened the music game genre to 4 players, letting everyone in. Even if you don’t feel comfortable playing guitar, you can sing along karaoke-style or beat on the drums. With a host of songs ranging from oldies to modern hits, and with expanded playlists through newer versions and downloadable songs, you are guaranteed to find a song for everyone.

3. Mario Kart Wii
This is another online game that will pit you against 11 other friends and family members who couldn’t make it this year. If online multiplayer isn’t your thing, that’s ok, because the 4-player local multiplayer is plenty to keep people busy. For those not good with joysticks and tons of buttons, you can even use the Wii Wheel and steer using motion controls. I remember spending several hours playing Mario Kart 64 and Double Dash with my family. The newest installment is than ever.

2. New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Most people in your family are probably familiar with Mario, and now they have the chance to jump in together for some crazy 4-player action. Whether you are competing in a coin-battle or cooperating as you progress through the main game, you are bound to have a great time with this one. In fact, there are not too many negative aspects of this game.

1. Wii Sports Resort
While Wii Sports took the number 1 spot last year, Wii Sports Resort is definitely the superior game. Sure, you need the Motion Plus add-on to your Wii Remotes, but it is well worth the purchase. In fact, you could even pick up the special edition that contains 2 Motion Plus accessories. With 12 sports, including 2 returning (bowling and golf), everyone is bound to find their favorites. Whether it be sword play, archery, or table tennis, Wii Sports Resort will not disappoint this Thanksgiving.
