New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Why No Online Mode?

Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo Of America’s boss, has admitted that he would have “loved” an online multiplayer mode in the game.

“This was a decision made purely by the developers,” he said in an interview with Kotaku. “They believe this experience, in the same room, to be elbowing your friends and family members as you’re playing the game [is ideal]. It was really their decision.

“I personally would have loved for it to be online capable as well,” he added, “but having played the game, I really can’t fault it for not being online multiplayer.”

Y’know, after playing the multiplayer, I can see why. There are quite a few areas that need discussion and in-room discussion is easier. There was a lot of “ok, wait here, and jump -right- when that thwomp comes down.. NOW!” type thing. Online introduces slight lag, both in voice and gameplay.

In general, though, I think in-room multiplayer is SO much fun. Some of my friends have forgotten how fun it used to be. I’ll want them to come over and play co-op and they’re like “Just get online.” It’s just different, to me.

Mijitomoto claimed that the CPU on the WII was stressed as far as it could with this game.

Not a very wise thing to say.
    1. It might be a lie.
    2. If so, is the WII finished now?
