Over the past week or so, we’ve seen so many different teases and rumors pop up and it’s time that they are all grouped together so that we can analyze them. I’ve divided them up into sections so that you can see which probably go together:
Surprise for Wii owners connected to the internet…
- Denise Kaigler said: “We’re working on a little surprise for those who connect their Wii to the Internet, so keep your eye on the Nintendo Channel for that announcement to come in the near future.”
- The latest Nintendo Power said to “look for a special announcement on the Oct. 26 Nintendo Week!”
New Mario game…
- Charles Martinet revealed he was recording this week for a new Mario game that is not New Super Mario Bros. Wii or Super Mario Galaxy 2.
- The three tweets about the new Mario game have since been removed, leading one to believe that those statements were real.
IGN playing unannounced Nintendo title…
- Nintendo is bringing four games to IGN: Cave Story, LostWinds: Winter of the Melodias, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and a fourth title.
- The fourth title is an unannounced game that “judging from what it is, it’s not a B title” and “came out of nowhere”.
- According to GodIsSatan, a member of the IGN Boards who I believe is IGN’s Associate News and Features Editor, it is not PokePark Wii: Pikachu’s Great Adventure. It “shocked the hell” out of him because he “certainly didn’t expect it”. He says it is unexpected because “it’s just really an odd time to make an announcement, just looking back on the Nintendo-published Wii games we have gotten in the past year or so.”
- According to GodIsSatan, he knows which franchise the game is from, meaning it can’t be a new IP. Previews for the game were supposed to go up on October 16th, when Nintendo showed it to multiple sites, but didn’t. GodIsSatan doesn’t know why they didn’t go up but thinks “we’ll get the full scoop soon enough”.
- GodIsSatan said “trust me at this point when I say there won’t be too many people out there who will be blown away when this one gets revealed.”
- When asked how cool this game is compared to PokePark Wii: Pikachu’s Great Adventure, GodIsSatan said “I’d say less cool in concept, but most likely a better game when it’s all said and done. There is one interesting aspect to the title that hasn’t been fully revealed yet. The ultimate quality of this title may hinge on how well this aspect is executed.”
- After people keep trying to predict what it is (with most people predicting Mario Party 9), GodIsSatan replied by saying “I don’t think anyone will be able to guess what this game is. I never would have expected this title to be in the works.”
- GodIsSatan later said “I was actually excited about it when I first heard what it was, but after more details made it my way, it no longer seemed nearly as appealing. It’s still a cool idea, just not one that anyone asked for or expected.
- When asked if this game refers to the Mario game that Charles Martinet mentioned on his Twitter, GodIsSatan replied by saying “I don’t think these two games have anything to do with each other. Martinet must have been referring to something further down the line.”
- Bozon from IGN commented by saying “lol wow. This game is going to be a victim of overhype.”
Miyamoto keynote on Oct. 24th…
- Shigeru Miyamoto is set to give a keynote at the Digital Contents Expo in Tokyo on October 24th at 12:30 Japan time in the National Museum of Emerging Science.
What is the surprise for Wii owners coming on October 26th? What is the new Mario game? What is the unannounced Nintendo game that IGN is playing? Will Miyamoto announce anything on October 24th? Those are all very good questions. It’s always possible that the game that IGN is playing is the new Mario game and it will be announced by Miyamoto during his keynote… or none of them could be related. All that can be said for sure is that some sort of surprise is coming this Monday on the Nintendo Week show. It could have to do with an announcement that Miyamoto will make or maybe have to do with the game IGN is playing or it could even be the Wii Ambassador program coming to the US. This next week could be a big week for Nintendo fans, so make sure you keep checking WiiNintendo for the latest!
UPDATE: I found a lot more details on the game that IGN has, so I added them to that section. Considering the announcement was supposed to be made a few days ago but wasn’t, I’m guessing the announcement was held back so that it could be made for the Nintendo Week episode on Monday, though that’s just a complete guess on my part. And if I had to guess what game IGN is referring to, I’d say Nintendogs Wii.
