Nintendo DSi Firmware 1.4 released in Europe, Japan, and Australia

undefined

I called it! Yesterday, the DSi Browser was updated in Europe and Japan (and Ugoku Memo was updated in Japan). I predicted that this update was going to release alongside the DSi firmware update that Nintendo promised at E3, which would add the ability to post photos directly to Facebook. Well, as I predicted, firmware version 1.4 was released today for Europe, Japan, and Australia so far.

The new firmware adds Facebook Connect and makes the DSi Camera faster. It also happens to block all current flashcards that work on the DSi. It is possible that the flashcards can be updated to work on version 1.4, but for now this proves that Nintendo is taking action against flashcards. No word on a DSi System Update or DSi Browser update for the US yet. If I had to guess, I’d predict it will come on Monday alongside the rumored US release of Flipnote Studio. We’ll just have to wait and see.

A true neverending story, the battle between Nintendo and 'home brew fans' ( who also happen to be able to play copied versions of games…)

24 hours, thats what it usually takes to break the new security for 98% (some features/games not working) and a final workaround usually within a week.
After which Nintendo can try again to make something to block flash cards without breaking the first gen DS games as well. That usually takes them 2 months. A 1:60 dropout ratio many ppl can live with.
