Shia La Beouf on the Wii: “It’s kind of an amateur console” June 22, 2009

Shia La Beouf Wii

What videogames did you like playing growing up?
Mortal Kombat, Doom, Donkey Kong, Sonic the Hedgehog, Mario Kart

What’s your favorite videogame memory from when you were younger?
I remember playing Mario Kart with my Dad for the first time and this is after years of my Dad just s****ing on videogames. Just like you’re a loser. Finally, after playing Mario Kart, my Dad looks over at me and says, “I like playing as the mushroom.” That’s all he had to say. It’s one of those memories you remember for the rest of your life like when your Dad uses a cell phone for the first time or text messages you for the first time. That type of stuff. Yeah, I like playing as the mushroom.

What’s the last game that really impressed you?
Sid Meier’s Civilization.

You play everything including real-time strategy?
Buddy, I’m a gamer. Not just the fake ones you read about.

How much time do you spend gaming these days when you’re not acting?
Oh man, last night I spent all night playing The Godfather II game. It’s solid. I like that game because I like Godfather. I really like the map. My problem with Grand Theft Auto is the map is too large. It takes too much transit time to get into action. Godfather, it’s large enough to be interesting and have variety, but not too large to where you feel like you’re driving the whole game. Which is cool. In the first Godfather game the cars were too slow. In this Godfather game the cars move faster. Not that this is what we’re supposed to be talking about, but it validates my gamer cred.

What are your thoughts on Activision’s new Transformers game?
Just in terms of the variety of choices with the Autobots and Decepticons that you can play, the movie has been infused with a bunch of new faces and the game is the same world. A lot of the updates you have in the movie you have in the game, so it should be a better game.

Have you checked out the Wii Transformers game?
I haven’t been able to play the Wii game because my hand is broken. I’ve just been playing Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. I would imagine that the Wii experience will be like…I don’t mess with the Wii, to be honest with you. It’s kind of an amateur console. I’m not into the Wii thing.

What’s wrong with the Wii?
This is how in a simple way you can find out if it’s a gamer you want to play with. Ask them if they have a Wii. If they say yes, get the f*** out of there.

Is that why you wouldn’t play LEGO Star Wars with Megan Fox on the set of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen?
Correct. Who wants to play the Wii version of LEGO Star Wars. I’d rather eat glass.

I totally agree with Shia. I've been waiting for some good games to come out to the wii, but they only bring mini games and utter crap to it. I am totally getting tired of those kind of games. The only games I've been playing on my wii are zelda games and brawl, but that's it. Nintendo needs to step it up. And after seeing motion control in the ps3? Hot damn, the wii is dying here. As time goes by, people grow up and want something new. And don't kill me for this, lol.
  • CP@E3
Im going to have to agree with him. Ive waited and waited and nothing really good has come out. Yea theres some stuff thats fun for a little while but nothing thats held my attention. My brother showed me the video for this Project Natal thing from xbox and when that thing comes out Im pretty sure the Wii is going down.
  • I saw a sneak preview of Transformers 2 last night, and Shia's acting was embarrassing to watch... Instead of being a self proclaimed hardcore gamer I'd work on the acting gig. The Transformers had more realistic acting then the humans... and Megan Fox... she's easy on the eyes, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't know what she is doing. The whole movie is basically her modeling and running.

I used to allways support the Wii saying its not an amateur or gimmick console but After this years E3. Theres no denying thats its an amateur & gimmick console..... I mean The Wii Vitality sensor COME ON....
  • Kill this fag

Why the hell is this story even ON here? Really? Is the Wii THAT uninteresting, that you look for/comment on people who don't like it?

Not liking the Wii doesn't make someone an "a**hole," calling someone an "a**hole" makes you an "a**hole" because they don't cherish what you obviously hold close to your heart.

I have a Wii. I like it, but I'd be lying if i said I'd rather play Lego Star Wars on the Wii than my PS3.

Please children, get over yourselves. Peace.
  • Thor
I knew I didn't like him for some reason.

I think there are more serious games on PS360... and I can understand the angle these pompous people are coming from... but to state, so proudly, that ones self is a "real gamer" and then only moments later state that you boycott an entire console based on vague generalities is contradictory. If someone is a "real gamer", that same someone wouldn't limit their gaming options by scratching a whole console's game collection from their list of possible enjoyment. The Wii offers many experiences that PS360 doesn't offer, just as Sony and Microsoft offer many experiences that the Wii doesn't... to make a long story short (too late?), if you are a "real gamer" then you would refuse to limit yourself by stating that you won't touch a particular console or genre.

Something about Shia LeBouf has always kind of annoyed me, and this just adds more reason to be bothered by his awkwardness. The idea of passing the Indian Jones torch form Harrison Ford to this kid is ridiculous... but that's another rant for another time.
  • Shazard
wow, first megan fox, now shia? is the whole transformers cast giant a**holes?
  • Boulouki
Well, here's another actor who acts high and mightey and speaks without even knowing a bit more about what he blames (meaning the Wii).
I hate people who say Wii isn't for hardcore gamers etc. Clearly these are the people who've heard only of Wii Sports as a WiiGame.
