Wii Shop Channel and DSi Shop down for maintenance… storage solution imminent?

Approximately 3 hours to go until Iwata speaks at GDC and a few hours ago, the Wii Shop Channel and the DSi Shop went down for maintenance. Coincidence? I think not. I find it weird that both the Wii and DSi’s shops went down at the same time. According to Inside Games, the message for maintenance reads that the shop will be back up at the exact time that Iwata finishes speaking (which is 1 pm eastern time, since his speech starts at noon).

The picture above is the message on Japanese DSi units and according to translators on NeoGAF, that message basically says the same thing as the Wii’s maintenance message meaning it doesn’t mention a time at all. So either Inside Games made the information up or Nintendo took down that part of the message. Either way, I don’t think it’s coincidence. IGN did say we would get the storage solution at the end of March. I’ll keep you posted on the latest.

EDIT: Did anyone realize that this is the one year anniversary for WiiWare’s launch? I just did and I wonder if it’s just a coincidence.
