Nintendo Mensa – January 16th, 2009
For Christmas the past two years I got a stocking stuffer calendar. It was one of those “Page-A-Day” calendars and it’s theme was Mensa.
Mensa “provides a forum for intellectual exchange among members. Its activities include the exchange of ideas by lectures, discussions, journals, special-interest groups, and local, regional, national, and international gatherings; the investigations of members’ opinions and attitudes; and assistance to researchers, inside and outside Mensa, in projects dealing with intelligence or Mensa.”
At any rate, since I do these brain games everyday I figured, why not post the same questions in Nintendo form? It may be a little easier, but I think it should be fun. The first one is sorta easy, but stick around because once a day I’ll be posting a new riddle/question/critical thinking/math problem that is Nintendo related. Eventually, I may start adding prizes to some of the harder ones.
Only rules are that you don’t use the internet (well you can if you want…but you’re only cheating yourself haha), calculators are fine too.

Here is your second puzzle, Nintendo Mensa – January 16th, 2009:
Link and Zelda are setting up a large dinner for Sahasrahla at a banquet hall in downtown Kakariko Village. The hall contains only chairs and round tables, and has 10 chairs at every table. Each table has 8 legs and each chair has 4 legs. The total number of legs on all of the chairs and tables is 960. What is the maximum number of people that can be seated (one per chair) at a banquet in this hall? Link and Zelda are expecting a full house, so with every seat filled (even the the thief is invited) and since it will cost Link and Zelda 20 rupees per person how many rupees will this celebration for Sahasrahla cost?
ANSWER: 4,000 Rupees! Hope link has that big wallet found… There will be 200 people in attendance (They were able to squeeze 201 people because they counted the Blacksmith brothers as one. Each table in the Kakariko Village Hall with 10 chairs has 8 + (10 × 4) = 48 legs. The number of tables in the hall is 960 ÷ 48 = 20. Since there are 10 people per table, the banquet hall seats 10 × 20 = 200 people. 200 people x 20 rupees each (except for the blacksmith bros.) = 4,000
