Wii Sports is ALMOST the best selling game of all time January 5, 2009

Gaming sites across the internet have been reporting that Wii Sports has indeed surpassed Super Mario Bros. becoming the best-selling console title in the world. We can safely assume that at least 35 Million Wii units have been sold outside of Japan and we have confirmation that the Wii has sold over 7.5 million units in Japan. Why is Japan so important is because Wii Sports is NOT a pack-in title and during the second-half of 2008, has been slow in sales that it barely makes the Top 30.
According to Nintendo by the end of September 2008, Wii Sports had sold a total of 30.87 million copies world-wide, and Japan had sold near the end of December a mere 3.2 Million copies of the game. If we were to assume that 35 Million units of Wii have been sold outside of Japan and by adding in another 3.2 Million units, we have obviously not reached 40 Million; the amount of copies sold for Super Mario Bros.
At this in point it seems certain that Wii Sports isn’t there yet, but in the coming months we can sure as easily declare that Wii Sports will become the best-selling game of all time.
