DJ Hero confirmed by Activision

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has confirmed that DJ Hero, a dance-music themed take on the Guitar Hero formula, is in development and will be out later this year.

The game will come bundled with a record-deck peripheral and will more likely than not be released on a wide range of formats.

Eurogamer quotes Kotick at the ongoing World Economic Forum in Davos as stating: “We have this product called DJ Hero coming out later this year, which is a turntable that you actually can play competitively and spin discs and mix songs.”

The game was seemingly confirmed late last year after trance star DJ Tiesto spoke of his involvement in a fan letter.

Iwata Promises a Great E3 in 2009

Filed under: News — hattrick @ 2:33 pm

2407205

What we are looking at are the cumulative Wii and DS sales through the end of 2008. Wii has been selling at industry’s record pace so far, and with new customers acquired by the gaming population expansion efforts, it is not impossible for Wii’s total sales to exceed the final install base of PS2. Wii still has much more room for expansion. We can expect more sales of software in the next fiscal year than in the current year. With what kind of software is Nintendo going to achieve this goal? Well, it will be shown at E3 to be held in the U.S. this June. – Satoru Iwata

Overlord Wii ‘blows away everything’ on the console January 29, 2009

It’s become acceptable for Wii games to look less than spectacular visually, and certainly well below the bar set by Xbox 360 and PS3 games, but it seems all developers aren’t cut from the same rock.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Overlord: Dark Legend associate producer Dean Scott confidently stated that the upcoming Wii game “blows away just about everything else” he’s seen on the console. A bold claim, but he’s prepared to be held up to “internet ridicule if that’s not the case”.

“Overlord Dark Legend looks amazing,” said Scott. “When people see this game in motion, they are going to be seriously impressed. It sounds like such a lame cliché to say ‘it looks like the 360 version’, but that’s true. Not exactly, but it’s closer than we ever imagined possible on the platform.

“Of course we’ve made some changes to get that level of fidelity on the Wii, but the guys at Climax have been very clever with it. In terms of looks, it blows away just about everything else I’ve seen on Wii,” he concluded.

Overlord: Dark Legend is a brand new entry in the Overlord series made exclusively for the Wii. As the Overlord you’ll be in control of teams of multi-skilled minions, hell-bent on causing mayhem as you work through a fairytale inspired story.

MadWorld Hands On

madworld

You bludgeon all sorts of Sin-City-meets-Manhunt badguys with your fists and whatever else is around, throwing them into bizarre death traps wherever you can find them. MadWorld’s carnival freak aggressors don’t put up much of a fight though, and therein lies the problem. I’m a glutton for exaggerated cartoon violence in videogames. MadWorld’s is very satisfying, a perfect mix of funny and grotesque, as a visual spectacle, but it never demands anything of you as a game. If there’s no threat to your own well-being in a game like MadWorld, the violence loses the thrill of tension and release. It’s that exact balance that made the Platinum Games team’s other action games God Hand and Viewtiful Joe the so memorable.

MadWorld’s presentation — intricate black and white environments and characters accented by washes of red blood and yellow sound-effect words — looks great, bellying the Wii’s meager horsepower. The characters are huge too, much bigger than you usually see in the genre, and the camera stays close to the action. The characters are so big though that I found myself losing track of what was even happening. If the enemies were even remotely aggressive, I think I would have died more than a few times. The black and white compounds the confusion because it’s hard to discern what’s what on screen – if the game didn’t have a GTA-style radar as part of its HUD, I wouldn’t have even realized there was a path leading to the level’s objective. Platinum Games’ Atsushi Inaba admitted to the inherent problems of MadWorld’s visual style, and it was troubling to find that all the kinks hadn’t been worked out yet.
