Reggie says Wii will get an online community November 20, 2008

One thing that Nintendo has been behind on as compared to the other consoles is online play. While they do have an online service, they were behind on adding DLC and more. One other thing that Wii currently lacks is an online community of sorts. We have bits and pieces, like Wii Friends, Mii’s, and things like that… but there just isn’t any sort of community to unite those features. But don’t worry, Nintendo is working it.
“Nintendo has always had a vision on community. The issue is that we define community differently than our competitors…Our consumers do want a sense of community, and we’re going to deliver that — but in a way that’s unique to Nintendo.”
The above quote is from Reggie, who mentions a “unique” online community is coming to Wii. Hopefully it won’t take too long for that time to come.

Ah, I was right! This explains why they added keyboard support to the Mii Channel.
They’re planning a Mii Chatting Community. \:D/

Oh, I like the sound of this!
I often wondered what everyone’s deal was with bashing Nintendo’s online. Then I finally checked out Microsoft’s thing, and I love the idea. It is actually what I had envisioned when I first heard about Wii Numbers. I had no idea they were going to be used so little. But maybe we’re finally going to get that connection. I know Nintendo has been pushing their customers to get online like crazy lately. Hopefully, they will give us this “community” very soon!
Online community will be great, I’m not sure what direction they will take it, but I think motion plus may bring over to the Wii a whole segment of gamers who until now thought motion controls were not really usable for serious gameplay, and they will want online integration, including community features.
Come on Nintendo take a tip or two from Live and PSN PLEASE!!! I BEG YOU! Make the Nintendo Wifi Connection anything close to Live and I’ll love you more than I love you now
I can’t wait for this. But Nintendo tends to procrastinate when it comes to things like this. I know it’s coming but we probably won’t see it until late next year.
