WiiNintendo Server Upgrade November 19, 2008

Hello All.

I recently purchased a new dedicated server for WiiNintendo and have moved the site over to it.  There may be some hiccups in the next few days as I configure everything, so please be patient.

Some details on the server upgrade:

I’ve been using Media Temple’s Grid Service Server for the past 2 and a 1/2 years.  It’s been GREAT!  It’s held up under some really intense traffic.  (Especially the Wii Sports Experiment story and the 10+ times we got on the front page of Digg.com).  The service was 20$ a month, but they gave you a certain number of Grid Perfermance Units (GPU), and since WiiNintendo has a very active community plus tons of unique visitors every month the server is working double time.  For the past year WiiNintendo has gone over the alotted GPU limit (which you get charged 10 cents for every GPU over), I’ve been paying anywhere from 150$ to 350$ a month to keep up with the demand.  The ads help cover some of the cost, but not enough.  At any rate WiiNintendo is now running on Media Temple’s Dedicated Virtual Server.  It is blazing fast, and for 50$/month we get unlimited GPU’s!

I’ll have to configure Wiigg.net, WiiFeed.net, WiiFuse.com, and other things.  I’ll keep the old server up in the meantime, so that mail and the forums work and once everything is transfered to the (dv).  I’ll cancel the old server.

Sorry everyone, I’ve been frantically trying to get it all running.

Once it’s all up it will be lightning fast and be able to stand up to the highest of traffic streams.

The forum will be back shortly…

There is A LOT of backend programming to get things going again.

I’ll try my hardest by mid-day tomorrow for the fuse.

The main page (this page) is almost 100% migrated. Next I want to fix emails, then I’ll get the forums up. I may put them up even earlier, then worry about modding them a little later, that way something is there.

Ok, sounds good. If you want, I guess I could be a mod (we need better mods…).

I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

@spyker Are we getting new mods or something? Cause if so I could be one too after my Triforce Wielder runs out. I always said that I wouldn’t be a mod until I was Triforce Wielder. I mean I’m already running the Gaming Challenges and soon to be the podcast. I dunno how people would react to my being a mod though, I would mostly care about that. :/

Just thinking out loud. Or thinking on the keyboard, or something like that.

I’ll click a few ads from time to time to help you out. Maybe over the course of a year I can earn you an extra $20 or so. :)

Don’t forget to get the WiiNintendo email back up, Mickey. Oh, and are you joining us for anymore podcasts? We do them every Tuesday at 9:30 pm eastern time.
