New “Play on Wii” DK: Jungle Beat and Pikmin details

null

When Nintendo announced that they would bring select GCN titles to Wii with added Wii controls under the “Play on Wii” title, we didn’t know that some of them may be updated. Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat was one of the GCN titles that used the Bongo controller and now on Wii, it will use the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Famitsu has now revealed that the game’s levels will have repositioned enemies, different elements in the game, and mid-level checkpoints, along with having entirely new stages. But one of the key elements of the GCN title was the Bongo controller. What will the Wii version’s controls be?

You’ll control Donkey Kong with the analog stick on the Nunchuk and jump using the A button on the Wii Remote. It’s not all done through buttons though, as you’ll use motion controls to punch enemies, perform continuous jumps, and more. Famitsu also mentioned the controls for the Pikmin “Play on Wii” title. In Pikmin, you’ll use the Wii Remote to point at locations on the screen. Pressing the A button allows you to throw your Pikmin and the B button calls the Pikmin back to you. There was no mention, however, of any additional features for the Pikmin “Play on Wii” title.

The people of Japan can buy Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat on December 11th, as well as Pikmin on Christmas. As for the US, the only confirmed “Play on Wii” titles so far are Pikmin and Mario Power Tennis. What are your thoughts on these added features? Are you happy about them or would you rather them keep the games exactly as they were on the GCN? Personally, I’m excited for these new additions.

It isn’t really needed if you already have the original games. But will the graphics be updated too?

  • DarkWish

@Potatoman: No, it’s all the same as far as I know.

Why use the analog stick for DKJB? It makes sense (to me) for the left bongo to translate to the nunchuk and the right one to the remote. Other than clapping translating to the A button, there is no point, as I see it, for other controls.
