Activision releases statement regarding Guitar Hero: World Tour drum issues [UPDATED] October 28, 2008

Those that bought the full band kit for Guitar Hero: World Tour on release date may be wishing they hadn’t. There have been many complaints that parts of the drums aren’t as responsive as they should be. The majority of the problems seem to lie with the orange cymbal and the red drum. And while there are some unofficial fixes out there that do solve the issues, they could void the warranty. Activision has finally commented on the situation on their customer support page and you can read the statement below.

We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues. We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages. While we believe that this was an isolated manufacturing issue, we are stepping our efforts to randomly test our drum kit controllers so customers can be assured they work properly. In the event any consumers do experience problems with their drum kit controllers associated with sensitivity issues, Activision will soon be offering a drum tuning kit that will enable players to fully optimize their drums.

Our goal would be to immediately address any hardware issues Guitar Hero World Tour players have with the game. Consumers should visit the Activision Publishing customer support website at www.activision.com/support website or call 310 255-2050 in the U.S. where a customer care representative will assist them. Activision is fully committed to the highest quality manufacturing standards, and to satisfying every Guitar Hero World Tour fan so they can enjoy the best musical gaming experience ever created.

Hopefully they can resolve this issue soon. Right now, I’m very glad I don’t have the money for Guitar Hero: World Tour and hopefully by the time I do get enough, this problem will be fixed.

UPDATE: We now have more details on the drum tuning kit Activision was referring to above. Check out the statement below.

We’ve heard in the forums that some drum kit controllers may have sensitivity issues – i.e. some pads or cymbals require extra strong hits in order to register in-game. We believe there may be an isolated manufacturing issue with some early drum kit controllers. The good news is that all Guitar Hero World Tour drum kit controllers are programmable, so that the sensitivity on each pad or cymbal can be updated from a PC running a Windows tuning program. Very soon we will be offering a free Drum Tuning Kit to consumers experiencing serious sensitivity issues.

That sounds good to me. No need to send in your drums or to pay for anything. All you’ll probably have to do is download the application, connect your drum kit, fix the settings, and then you’re ready to jam! I added an image of the drum tuning kit above, by the way.

@DarkWish: thanks... I thought they sounded like they were pulling things out their rear ends.

@Mack2D2: yea, they're clueless. For Guitar Hero: World Tour on ALL platforms, there are three different packages. There's a package with just the game, a package with game and guitar, and the full band kit package (game, guitar, drums, microphone). All three packages are in stores now. They have not confirmed if they will release the drums separately in the future, though I think it makes zero sense if they don't.

I was told by a Fred Meyer electronics department salesman that they did not have any drum sets in for the Wii yet... and also by a GameStop employee that the Wii's drumset is not being released until January, not even in a combo package with the game and another guitar. What gives with this? Are these people retarded, or am I missing something?

One other thing, I noticed in the screenshot that it says "USB Audio Device" Hmmm.... I'm pretty sure that my drum set does not have a USB connector. So, there is no Mac support and maybe no Wii support as well??
  • Sounds good... if you're not on a Mac.
