Guitar Hero: World Tour Drums

Hey everyone,

Has anyone else had issues with the Guitar Hero: World Tour drum set? It seems like the yellow cymbal isn’t picking up hits as well as the other drums. Anyone else have this problem? Anyone solve it?

    Unofficial possible solutions are on the official forums.

    Note – I’ve posted in this topic requesting pictures from the people who have confirmed this solution. Hopefully we’ll get a little tutorial soon.

    Thanks a lot. I’ll check it out.

    Maybe it’s good that I won’t have enough money for the full band kit until January. Hopefully this issue will be fixed by then.

    I haven’t seen a large amount of postings on drum kit problems, so maybe it’s for a minority of buyers. Though, I’ve read a few posts of people who returned it 3 times and still had a problem of some sort.

    I had an issue with the red drum too not picking up… in the training part where it teaches you the accents. It tells you to hit it harder than normal, but not as hard as you can… well it didn’t work and i broke a stick before i could start playing songs.

    I haven’t tried the accent notes much, but my red drum seems to be picking up ok as long as I stay mostly center.It’s the yellow I was having the most problems with. Makes Easy mode especially frustrating since a majority of the notes are on the red and yellow.

    Oh dear what a crock of shite this is. I remember buying the guitar hero 2 for XboX 360 and the guitar didn’t work property until a fix was released.

    Check this out. Apparently it’s not just with the Wii. I don’t think it’s a huge problem, but it looks like it is big enough.

    I have not had any problems at all w/ my drum kit. Although my buddy’s red drum is not working very well. There is talks about a fix for this on the official website that they are working on to update the firmware on your drum kit so just hang tight.

    A firmware update? Would that fix sensitivity? I thought that was a hardware issue? Well, we’ll see I guess.

    I went home during my lunch break at work and figured out (through vigorous Mii Freestyle testing) that the sensors on my cymbals are left of center. What I did to remedy it was rotate the cymbals so they face slightly to the right. It seemed to solve the problem for the most part, though I have to hit the cymbals with a medium amount of strength for it to register. Not good with soft hits, though I don’t see a gameplay diff between soft and hard hits on any of the drum pieces.

    @DarakuTenshi

    Have they mentioned a firmware update for the Wii version? From what I understand, and I haven’t checked this myself, the firmware update is something that will only work for the Xbox360 version (since you can plug it in via USB I am guessing? Not sure.)

    @ Rob

    I have heard of a red drum solution. Ah, found it. It’s about halfway down: http://community.guitarhero.com/forums/55708/forum_topics/131200
    And it includes pictures, how nice. I didn’t read it, but perhaps it can help your red drum issue.

    @ charon12

    My red drum seems ok as long as I hit it mostly in the center. It’s the yellow cymbal I was having issues with.

    I guess I’ll wait a few days and see what happens. I really don’t want to do any self-fixes that involve opening the thing up in case I need the warranty or they issue a recall or update or something.

    @Rob

    I see. I misread it the first time. I know what you mean about the DIY fixes; I’ve been hoping someone will post some pictures like the one thread I linked to. I now have a full description of what to do, but I’d really like to see it before I go taking this apart. I’ve been playing with the drums to rule out user error, but I still feel it’s dropping notes. I want to give Activision a day or two to send out the official word before I dissect my new toy.

    About 10 posts down the page, a fella that has a Red drum not working suggested this. I had the same problem after about 5 hours use – the red drum wouldnt work no matter how hard I hit it. When I turned the drums upside down and hit them, it would work sometimes.

    When I took them apart, the wire was still in the silicone but stuck down tightly. Looking closer I saw the wire had broken away from the solder. I removed the silicone, stripped the wire, loosened it a bit and stuck it back in the solder.

    Its all good now and would suggest this for anyone who has a drum that doesnt work at all(not sensativity issues)

    I have had a hell of a time with the drum set for world tour, good thing I bought the two year extended warranty. The first time I bought it the foot pedel was producing an extra beat when you release your foot from the pedel. Returned it to the store. Next one the guitar didn’t work, so I returned just the guitar cause my drums were working fine. 40 songs later was double beating on the pedel again and the red drum sensitivity went down making it almost imposible to produce a note. Returned it. Third drum set/second guitar and the Drum set is double beating on the pedel again. Now I have to return it for the fourth time. Can anyone explain why I’ve gotten every defective unit…

    My daughter was turning the cymbal and the wire at the back of the cymbal pulled out. Is there any way to replace just this part?

    My first drum set the orange cymbal went bad after a day two. I exchanged it three weeks ago and now i have to return it again because of the yellow cymbal is bad. What on earth is going on? I’m beginning to wonder if anyone is actually going to fix the issue.
