Wii firmware update yesterday adds new tidbits to Wii Shop Channel October 23, 2008

I was really busy with things at college yesterday, so apparently I missed this bit of news. There was a firmware update for Wii yesterday, and it’s one of those updates that was small and so it’s not on the official Nintendo website. The Japanese Wii Shop Channel had a description of the firmware update, and Cheesemeister on NeoGAF has translated it for us. It says…

On Thursday, 10/23 starting at 7 AM, the Shopping Channel is undergoing maintenance longer than scheduled, and is currently not in service. We apologize for any inconvenience due to this maintenance.

With this maintenance, the following changes will be made.

Wii Points will soon be called Nintendo Points, and all references as such will be updated. All other functionality with Nintendo Points will remain the same.

The controller usage explanation screen will be updated.

The controller usage explanation screen will be separated from the purchase screen. Along with this, the user will be prompted to confirm that they have any necessary accessories before being able to press the Purchase button.

The design of the icons displayed will be updated.

I haven’t been able to update my Wii since I’m at college, so I can’t verify if the update is the same for the US or not. Regardless, the firmware is still Version 3.3, so it’s not like it’s a big update anyways. I hope we don’t have to wait until Spring for the next big firmware update.

unfortunately this update also searches for unauthorized save files and deletes them. and you know what that means..

I was wondering what this update was last night.
I would still like to see more classic controller and gamecube controller support in the menu and all the channels.

(ex. Only Wii remote works in weather channel.)

I agree with Roth, and that is something that always bugged me. Why should I have to go to town and buy batteries for my dead Wii Remote if all I want to play is a GameCube game?
