According to Gamepro, auctions for DSi reservation tickets have not been going high.  They say this is due to the low excitement for this hardware in Japan.  I’m not sure I believe this or not.  Here’s a portion of the article.

On Tuesday afternoon on Yahoo Auctions, Japan’s largest auctions site, reservation tickets for the DSi had attracted only one or two bidders and prices were hovering around the 3,000 yen mark…

DSi with free shipping on launch-day from Japan sold for $246, below its “buy-it-now” price of $299 and leaving a modest profit for its seller. Handhelds selling on Yahoo Auctions in Japan were fetching roughly similar prices. One sold Tuesday for 23,000 yen.

  • Well, we've got another 2 weeks until we find out.
I'm sure those people over there will be head over heels on the new product.
I'm still trying to get a hold of one myself, but no import stores online is taking any pre-orders which is strange indeed.

  • I was going to post this the other day, but then I read the comments on another site and realized this probably isn't accurate. Someone who wanted to pre-order it said they contacted retailers about 5 days after it was announced and they were out of pre-orders. Also, the Japanese people do tend to want to stand in lines to get things, as another person noted. I have a feeling it will be a big launch as usual.

And even if it isn't, I think as word gets out about the DSi, more and more people will want it. It was announced basically a month before it was revealed and I wonder how much advertising Nintendo was able to do in that time. Like with the DS Lite, excitement will probably build up over time.
