Unless there's a weapon that's not already mentioned that requires motion+.
We don't know that yet because it's not been announced, but I'm willing to put my bets on that statement.

That would depend on the sensitivity options more than anything. It also depends on the game. There's major lag when the pointer is used in games like Twilight Princess (aiming the ranged weapons and tools) while when you use it on the Wii/Wii Sports menus or while playing Metroid Prime 3 there's nowhere near as much, and the amount there is would only be noticed if you waggled left and right while focusing on the cursor to see it doesn't follow your motion 100%. It's not noticable at all in regular use. In any case, even if your superman eyes notice it in games where it's well implemented like the ones I mentioned, it's still not really relevant to the discussion we were having since MotionPlus won't be improving the IR camera in any way.

"The pointing function is as accurate as it gets with or without MotionPlus since it uses different technology which already works as intended and needs no improvement."

Yes it does. The IR camera could use some improvement like making it read faster, since the current IR camera reads too slow and instead of making people feel like they're actually aiming and shooting, it feels like youre just flicking your wrists to move a cursor on-screen.

I quoted myself because you didn't seem to see that part with your response. As for the gimmicks, I'm fairly descriptive with what I mean.

"gimmicky uses of motion like Metroid Prime 3’s switch flipping"

Yes, that type of thing can become more accurate with The Conduit, but I don't think it adds much to the game in the first place so if that's all they're doing with it MotionPlus should still be optional and not a must.

And yes, I quoted myself again.

@ Al3xand3r - Overall, yep, I agree. I'm not sure how it could be more accurate, but sometimes we don't know until we actually see it and experience it. I'm not sure I get your point about the gimmicks because you are using MP3 as an example which didn't have WMP. No offense, but I think it's funny that you quoted yourself. :-)

That's what I'm saying, I don't think there's any benefit aside from gimmicks like the motion controlled switch flipping of Prime 3. The pointing function is as accurate as it gets with or without MotionPlus since it uses different technology which already works as intended and needs no improvement. What would "more accurate" be for the shooting in Prime 3? The pointer cathes even the slightest movements and does with them what you want it to do according to your sensitivity settings. It will be identical in The Conduit though of course it's great we'll have more in depth options to really set the sensitivity to our particular tastes. MotionPlus has nothing to do with that though.

Quote:
"What are they using it for in The Conduit then? The game was pretty much feature complete before they got the MotionPlus kits. Why tack on the functionality and reduce the number of your potential buyers just for gimmicky support of brand new hardware? If it’s optional and the game works as intended without it then I’m fine with that. If for example there’s some Prime 3 style switch flipping and it merely becomes more accurate with MotionPlus then that’s great but if they’re reworking mechanics to make the ownership of MotionPlus a must then it’s not great."

I'm assuming the WIi Motion Plus control will only make the control more accurate. I doubt they will abuse it and make all movements controlled by the Wii Remote. MP3 was good, but I'm thinking it could only be better with WMP added in. Don't ya think?

"Either way, while all Wii games demand accuracy from the Wii Remote, FPS games like The Conduit, which requires pinpoint precision for players to succeed, should benefit from MotionPlus support one would think."

Eh, I thought you'd have played enough of the Wii to know FPS games tend to use the pointing function and not the motion detection for their core gameplay, so, no, they don't have much to benefit from MotionPlus aside from gimmicky uses of motion like Metroid Prime 3's switch flipping, and of course the melee they mention for the sequel, though that would be ditching the S part of an FPS if it included extensive use of it.

Other than that, FPS games work perfectly well without MotionPlus as the likes of Metroid Prime 3 and even The Conduit (according to the media) have proven so far.

Not to mention the potential awkward situation of the controls being all different when switching between guns and melee since if you'll be using the remote to swing a knife or whatever, then you obviously can't at the same time use it to actually control your view, thus requiring a change in the basic controls. I'm sure you understand that situation is not very intuitive so they should not implement such features just for the hell of it out of excitement or for hype.

What are they using it for in The Conduit (not the sequel) anyway? The game was pretty much feature complete before they got the MotionPlus kits. Why tack on the functionality and reduce the number of your potential buyers just for gimmicky support of brand new hardware? If it's optional and the game works as intended without it then I'm fine with that. I do intend to buy MotionPlus either way but perhaps not at launch and I'm sure others wish to wait also so tacking it on as a requirement for games that aren't designed around it like The Conduit isn't doing much good to anyone.

Rant over.

Also, to those who were following the Media Summit yesterday might've caught Cammie saying The Conduit is "first-party" as was reporte at GamePro. She was mistaken and meant to say "first-person shooter". We're awaiting official confirmation.
