Is it is it? Yes it is a new DS! Updated with videos.

The rumors finally come to an end tonight as Nintendo wraps up their Japanese press conference. Enough jibber jabber let’s get into the details.

The size has been reduced 12% and 2.6 millimeters.

There is an SD card slot so you could take your images from the photo channel and put it on your DSi

The DSi has a larger screen, 3.25 inches. There’s a camera, and an audio-playing abilities. The camera is 3 megapixels. (Wow that’s more than my phone)

You can edit the picture using the touch screens. And no that is not a typo. There will be two touch screens! When you play back audio you could edit the speed.

Wii points has a new name “Nintendo Points” why is this you might ask? Because now you could download games and possibly apps for your DSi via Nintendo DS Shop. The DSi has a built in web browser also. Hopefully it will work great with blogging!

The DSi will come with 1,000 Nintendo Points when you buy it. This goes until March 2010 for Japan. No word on US yet.

The DSi will release in Japan for 18,900 yen (About 180 US) on November 1st in Japan.  It will come in white and black.

Photos and videos after the jump!

That’s… Actually a pretty dumb place to put the camera lens IMO… (Especially so if there’s no cover for it)

But that grippe aside this new unit does look sweet…

I really do hope that considering there’s no more GBA slot we well be seeing games as new as GBA titles coming to the Shop Channel in the very near future…

Myself personally am kinda sad to see the GBA Slot go… It always served as a reminder to me that the GB Series wasn’t ever really gone…

Oh well… I suppose now it’s up to the GB Games themselves to remind me of that fact…

I was also sad to see that GBA Slot go away. But hey a lot better features. Higher RAM makes me happy :D

  • he did it

yeah i cant wait for this. hopefully that ram will be put 2 good use

Yahknow though… This really does kinda surprise me that they would so suddenly & unexpectedly decide to do such a massive update to the DS hardware…

Is it just me or is anyone else perplexed about this as well?…

I mean look at it… It’s not really an optional update like the Light was to the original DS… You will pretty much need this thing if you want the newer games & downloadable features…

Why no warning or prep-talk several months in advice to prepare everyone to get ready for it just like every other major update Nintendo has done in the past?

If they’re going to be killing off the old hardware I would definitely think jest a little bit more of a warning would have been more then called for…

    Actually, the camera isn’t 3 megapixels, it’s .3 megapixels.

I know the old DS titles will work with this, will there be new titles just for this or is it just DS titles is it still a cartridge or CD ??????????????????????????????????????????

awsome thought lost of great things packed in I really like the opera browser on the wii so I think the one for the DS will be good

    it looks awsome

  • http://wiinintendo.net/ hattrick

@ FR – if you look at the photos and read the blog entries/articles, you will see that it will still use cartridges and the games will work on both systems (except for those that need the camera of course). No offense. I was just drawing attention to what has already been covered.

The dsi looks amazing!! The only downside is that it doesn’t have the gba slot, although the ds channel where you can download games from gb, gbc, and gba will more than make up for that.

  • Pumakid

It’s a technological marvel. This will surely be in the handheld portable gaming systems market as well as the market that the iPhone is in. Though I have found a contradiction in two of the pictures. In the picture on the top where the side view is there is a power switch like on the DS Lite. But in the specifications of the DSi in Japanese (where it is opened up) there is a power button. Either there is an auxiliary power button or it’s a real contradiction.

  • Pumakid

My mistake. It was the DS Lite I was looking at when I said something about the contradiction.

  • Morgan

I guess that this looks pretty awesome. I think that it looks much better than my old DS Lite. But, my only thing is the camera. Like, I know you can take pictures and all that stuff but, like… what the heck are you going to do with a stupid camera and then like, when you add all the different emotions to it your photos look like crap.

Well, what do I know. I’m just a girl. I’m sure boys would know better.:D
