Charmy’s Special Announcement, “Ike’ll Get No Sympathy From Us!” September 17, 2008

Okay, here’s the thing. This was kind of my own little idea that me, DarkWish, and hey_suburbia (owner of WiiNintendo.net and WiiFuse.com) turned into an official project for the site. It’s an idea for helping out the victims of Hurricane Ike. Those of you that play Super Smash Bros. Brawl will know that the character Ike frequently says, “You’ll Get No Sympathy From Me!”, so it’s time to show Ike/Hurricane Ike that “Ike’ll Get No Sympathy From Us!”
What we’re asking all of you to do is to record yourselves playing a match in Smash Bros. Brawl battling an Ike. You can choose whichever character you want (except Ike), any stage, whatever items, or any other settings you want, but you have to be battling an Ike. The Ike can be human or whatever level of COM player you wish, and of course you must win the battle, defeating Ike. Then when you have your video, send them to DarkWish’s e-mail at
DarkWish@wiinintendo.net
Once we get around three videos, we’ll post them on the WiiNintendo.net main site, and then when we get a few more, we’ll make another post, and so on. After so and so amount of time, we will combine every video we get into one huge compilation video with little pop-up text saying who’s battling.
The whole point of this is to show that “Ike’ll Get No Sympathy From Us”. We’re going to band together to raise money for the victims of Hurricane Ike, while having some fun at the same time. This is our chance to use this huge gaming community that we have to make a difference. Starting today, we will be accepting donations for Hurricane Ike victims via PayPal, and after a few weeks, we will send 100% of the donations to the American Red Cross, for the purpose of helping the Hurricane Ike victims. As proof that we aren’t going to use this money elsewhere, hey_suburbia will record the transaction and post it on the main site so you have evidence.
So when does it start? Right now! You can start donating by clicking the donate button below. We will also be setting up a link on the sidebar for you to donate as well. Please donate whatever you can. Every cent counts. We don’t really have an expectation of how much we want to make, but the more the better. Please spread the word on this project as well, so that we get more people involved in this cause. Remember to send your videos in to DarkWish@wiinintendo.net ASAP! The donation button is below, and you can read the history of how this project started after the jump.
Together, we can take down Ike and show him that he’ll get no sympathy from us!
How this started, or I should say why I came up with this idea is because this is the first time I’ve ever been the slightest affected by a Hurricane. Smash Bros. Brawl is one of my favorite games, and I thought it was funny that the Hurricane was named Ike, because Ike is a character in the game. So, I was trying to think of ways to help and then I came up with an idea. I sent it to my DarkWish on the WiiFuse Forums (wiifuse.com) that we have, and he said it was a great idea. So we told the owner of the site and he approved! I also released this big news on our podcast, The Wii-kly Fuse, to all of our listeners Tuesday night.
It was kind of a metaphorical thing, with everybody defeating Ike, and it was fun. I hope that our efforts will be blessed, and we will have the wonderful experience of helping people that have lost everything by doing something that we love.

“This is our chance to use this huge gaming community that we have to make a difference.”
What huge gaming community? lawl
Anyways, interesting idea. I’d donate, but since I have no idea who’s controlling the actual paypal account of donations, I don’t think so.

People were warned and those that “could” of left and “didn’t”,they suffer from there own action, no one or nothing else, I give no sympathy for those who were affected and didn’t leave… (not including seniors and hospital patients) I live in N.O. so tell me anything bout hurricanes and helping programs!!! >:[ (I left but house flooded…)
And really?? Why pick on Ike from SSBB??? what did he do to be beatin up on???(beside being cheap…) Ike from SSBB was here before that hurricane Ike!!! So find another way to raise money… Like have a big SSBB tournament with a cool reward…
(And yes, do I seem a little MAD???)

@ExiledBlack: You can trust us. The money is going to the owner of WiiNintendo, Mickey/hey_suburbia, and then he will give the money to the Red Cross. He’s going to record that transaction as proof too. And if you don’t know who Mickey is, he’s the one that did the Wii Sports and Wii Fit Experiments, so he’s been on TV and in magazines quite a bit.
@unknown: First off, this money isn’t just going to help those that didn’t leave. What about the many people that DID leave, yet all their stuff is now destroyed? Did you think about that? And we never said we’re not going to do anything like this in the future. Do you honestly think that if we just randomly started a campaign for a random hurricane, people would donate? Probably not. By using gaming, we can get people to join in on the fun and they’ll want to donate. That opens up doors to other things we can help with in the future.
And why Ike? Who cares who it is. The whole point is to get people motivated to donate. I think it seems selfish that you don’t want to donate just because there’s no prize or reward for doing so. There’s no reason to get mad over this.
And lastly, JUST BECAUSE WE DIDN’T SAY WE ARE GOING TO DO SOMETHING DOESN’T MEAN WE WON’T DO IT. We are OPEN TO IDEAS! This is going to go on for a few weeks, so there’s plenty of time to do more things. Like unknown mentioned, we could have a tournament. If you listened to our podcast, you’ll know that we plan on doing a live stream of Brawl on a weekend. There is more coming, so don’t worry! And PLEASE donate whatever you can. Every little bit helps. Our goal here is to help people, and I’m sure lots of you want to do the same.

Jeez its just a name, a hurricane is a hurricane, sure i would donate if i had money, but i dont have money so wtf. B/

I just donated $150 usd
September 20th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
At “Bill Gates”: Sure you did.
I have no doubt that Mickey can be trusted, but it seems more effective to me to make private donations to the Red Cross, personally.

@Nick: If that’s what you’re more comfortable with, then go for it.

I don’t currently have a working computer… Is there any way I could submit my video by sending it directly to someone’s Wii?
September 22nd, 2008 at 8:25 am
@Surgical Precision: If you could find someone that could record the video, then yea, you could send it to them.

[...] Wii Nintendo is holding a cool project called “Ike’ll get no sympathy from us”. The idea is to have gamers send in Super Smash Bros. Brawl videos of them defeating Ike while raising money for the Red Cross. It seemed like a cool idea to me, especially in light of my previous post.
