Animal Crossing: City Folk Bundle- $70 September 15, 2008

Wii Speak
Word has leaked from the ongoing GameStop manager’s conference in Las Vegas that the Animal Crossing: city Folk and Wii Speak bundle will run you a pricey $70 — news which cued one anonymous 1UP editor to exclaim, “$70!? For that price it had better come with a white van for abducting kids you meet in your magical little animal town.”

This bundle is a cheaper alternative to buying the game and microphone separately, with a standalone Wii Speak running you $30. Even so, $70 is an exorbitant price for a game that, by all appearances, hasn’t evolved much since the game we originally knew as Animal Forest on the N64.

At $70, is the price for engaging in emergent gameplay-like activities — such as the makeshift fishing tournament showcased at E3 — now too high?

Personally, I don’t think so.  Most serious gamers will probably buy the Wii Speak, and Animal crossing is just the chill-out game that everyone can have fun with.  who cares about looks and things like that?  The core game is the same, with loads of new features, and in my eyes that’s all that matters.

Is it just me, or is that an extremely inappropriate comment?

@hattrick: Yea, I know you were trying to be nice, I'm just voicing my opinion too. I don't mean to be rude or anything, just offering helpful tidbits here and there, that's all.

Euros are different from dollars! Surprise!

    You stupid spoiled f***ing yankees!
$70 is not much for a game and you get the Wii speak crap to. Here in Europe a game almost always cost 90-100$ and thats ONLY for the game. You get a game plus the new Wii speak for only 70$ (probably half of what we have to pay for it) and then complain about the price!?
  • @ DarkWish - I was just trying to be nice, but it does seem more like a 1up response.

Anyhow, Jamie, I agree with DarkWish that you need to search around to make sure something is already posted. But don't feel bad. It happens to all of us. Mickey (hey_suburbia) even does it sometimes.

@hattrick: Personally I don't see that as much of a difference, but whatever. Just keep it up I suppose. Next time just do a search to make sure it's been posted, especially if it's from a conference that ended a week ago.
  • @ DarkWish - This entry seems to be more about 1up's response than the fact that the package has a $70 price tag.

@ Jamie - I don't think so. Maybe just change its title (see above).

Crap. Sorry. Should I delete it?
