Wii and DS Compatibility

The Wii and DS communicating…  It seems so perfect.  Yet, only a few games have taken advantage of this ability.  Quite often, I find myself looking for games that do.  So, I was just watching a video about a game called MaBoShi which uses Wii-DS compatibility via DS Download.  Check it out.

Then I thought back to the time when the GBA connector came out for the Gamecube.  One game they said that would use this ability would be football games, like Madden.  You could choose your own play secretly on your GBA.  Well, I’m curious why they haven’t used this feature on Wii games with the DS.  It seems to me like using the DS to pick your secret plays is a great idea.  Not only that, you could even draw up your own plays.  What other games could benefit from Wii-DS compatibility?  Well, I would like to see another Zelda game with a Tingle-like ability on the DS.  I know there are already a few out there that use this ability, but not too many.  Right now, I believe the list only comes to about 10 games (including Galaxy Wars, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, the above mentioned MaBoShi, and the future Animal Crossing: City Folk).  What existing games would you love to see use this technology?  What new games could they make with this sort of connection?

    the DS was ok but for about 2 years, 2005-1007 there were no good games except pokemon, i dont like pokemon, so i sold mine, i wish i hadnt now becuase i had a years worth of animal crossing data, and GTA chinatown wars is coming out

    I honestly dont see why we actually need connectivity. I dont see it going anywhere after seeing how bad previous GBA to GC games did and how much of a hassle it was

    All WiiWare title should be like this.. including Earthbound: Year 3000.
    Even a Dr. Mario Online RX download to DS would’ve been neat – online MP.

    There was a massive issue with the GBA / GC connectivity, which is that a lot of players felt left out when they couldn’t access extra features in games like FF:CC and The Four Swords. It pissed off non-GBA owners, and left a huge bill for those who did have a GBA, in the form of extra cables, etc.

    There’d be no cable fee for the DS, but even with the DS’s huge success, not every Wii owner has one. Game designers would need to come up with a useful and interesting control scheme that doesn’t leave non-DS owners feeling like they only get half the game. That’s tricky, and considering that a lot of Wii game designers can’t even be bothered to come up with an interesting Wiimote control scheme, I wouldn’t hold your breath…

    @aphexbr: The way I see it, it’s a bonus. I don’t think developers should include a lot of things as Wii/DS connectivity only features, but it would be nice to have more games include some sort of connectivity as a bonus for those that own both.

    One of the things I have wanted is some sort of channel on Wii, like a DS Channel or something, where we could download interesting apps that are made for Wii/DS connectivity. An example is a game that has a word appear on the TV screen and everyone that has a DS connected can draw it and then the pictures would appear on the TV screen when everyone is done. Fun stuff like that. It’s a bonus for Wii/DS owners and heck, Nintendo could charge like 500 Wii Points to download it or something, idk. I just want to see more connectivity.

    i think it would be cool if wii sports or wii sports resort could be on the ds. it would be totally different, but very interesting.
