Miyamoto Out of Original Ideas for Wii

Check out Destuctoid’s coverage of what Iwata said in a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal:

“Wii Music completes what Miyamoto wrote in his proposal when he came up with the idea for the Wii,” Iwata told the Wall Street Journal. “He was saying that he needs to think up more ideas now.”

“Most of the ideas for accessories that we had initially come up with are out now. We might think up some more, and we might make them if we do, but we don’t have any plans to release a whole lot more.”

Maybe Miyamoto and Iwata need some help.  :-)  What do you think could be next for the Wii?

This doesn’t mean the he’s out of fresh ideas, it just means that there aren’t any first-party plans for new accessories for the Wii.
While the accessories are nice and all, I personally don’t mind. I REALLY think that they should be focusing on making more games rather than peripherals.

What should be done with the Wii? It’s easy, but Nintendo have shown they’re not interested…

    1. Make data storage easy.
    2. Get rid of the f**king stupid region control, on both downloaded and physical games.
    3. Make more games that appeal to non-casual markets – decent FPS, survival horror, RPG, even platformers are starved on this console for no good reason.
    4. Make online play easy – the 10 year olds you’re trying to “protect” by restricting online are, by Nintendo’s own admission, not the primary audience for the Wii.
    5. Stop thinking that new games need a new custom controller – the new peripherals confirmed are OK but there’s a lot of life in the standard controller. Most people would prefer to pay $30-40 for a new game using the standard WiiMote or balance board than $80 on a game with a new gimmicky controller.

    Not hard.

I agree with aphexbr. Especially number 4. Games should come first.

@ aphexbr – regarding your #3, please refer to future releases such as Fatal Frame 4, The Conduit, Call of Duty: World at War, Star Wars (a couple), Dead Rising, and Mad World…just to name a few.
