Check out this video by InvenSense that explains how the Wii Motion Plus controller uses both the accelerometer and gyroscopes to achieve full 1:1 motion control.
@ VidocQ – Just tested it, and all links worked for me.

So I’m thinking of games like Soul Calibur… and all those weapons, and realizing that now… you don’t need a high attack button and a low attack button… or a powerful hit button and a quick hit button… you simply need 1:1 motion control, this would almost be a fighting SIMULATION game with a a fantasy flair for entertainment. If you read the opponents attack right, then you could block using your weapon, and incorporating a system to detect what part of their body you hit would be very awesome obviously.
Remember the Black Night on “Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail”..? We could literally get some games where you fight to disarm, or dis-limb your opponent before they dis-limb you… internet based fighting like this would be badass!
Sorry for the long post, I’m just really excited about what 1:1 can bring us if some developers really get on it… they can be simple games, but now multiplayer battles and things of that sort don’t have to be determined by the occasional button masher, a level of physical skill is now required.
easy
the problem is to bring it in games.
like swinging a sword and the hitboxes etc.
