New Wii Shop Channel Feature on Japanese Wii’s?

YouTube Preview Image

UPDATE: Since we posted this yesterday we’ve got a translation from a reader:

New functions added to the “Everyone’s Nintendo Channel”

Main new features:
1. A software information and movie search function has been implemented.
2. Movies can now be stopped and played from different points.
3. A new feature has been added to software information.

It then explains how to download the channel, etc, etc.

There’s also apparently a new ‘Digital camera print channel’:
Using pictures taken with your cell phone or digital camera, or even your Miis, you can now do such things as create cards (like, business cards)and the like. And apparently Nintendo is doing it in cooperation with Fuji Film. You can purchase different items using items you’ve selected from your SD card.

It then talks about payment information, legal crap, etc, etc, as well as how to access the print channel from the Wii shopping channel.

The number input you guys [WiiNintendo comments] are talking about is the ‘Special software retrieval number input’ screen. The explanation is as such:

“If you have a special software retrieval number, you can input this number for software retrieval.

In order to re-retrieve already downloaded software, please select the software from the ‘Purchased software’ option on the top menu.”

A while back, WiiRevolution1 discovered something about the Wii Shop Channel. One of the buttons on the main menu of the Wii Shop Channel used to read “Settings”, but one day it changed to “Settings and Features”. Despite that change, nothing new was there when you click that button… until now. WiiRevolution1 has both a Japanese and North American Wii, and on his Japanese Wii, he discovered that there was something new there. There’s a new button at the bottom and when clicked, it asks you to input a 16 digit code. He tried putting in his Wii Number for his Japanese and North American Wii, as well as his friend’s Wii Number, yet he kept getting errors.

And before, when you checked the manual for the Wii Shop Channel, it only showed the button for “Settings” in a picture. Now, he says that that manual shows off his new feature, though he doesn’t know how to read it since it’s in Japanese. I’ll keep you updated on the latest regarding this possible new feature on the Wii Shop Channel. Thanks again WiiRevolution1 for the news.

It’s obviously a password entry for a rewards system on games for free Wii points.

You beat a game, you get a code. Put the code in, there’s 1000 wii points.

  • DarkWish

@Zero: I didn’t think of that, interesting. The only issue with that is that people will hack a game to beat it multiple times and get codes for points. I’m sure people would exploit the system some how.

  • PF

Um, I don’t think its a password system. 1000 wii points to beat a game? Hell np

  • DarkWish

@PF: Well, you have to enter in some sort of code since it tells you to enter in a 16 digit number when you click it.

  • WiiRevolution1

I doint think so Zero. In the manual it does not say the word “Wii” (Which it would need to for it to spell Wiipoints) since Wii In Japanese is well Wii…then its no rewards system.

(that made no sense did it?…)

  • DarkWish

@WiiRevolution1: I see what you’re saying. Hmm, I just can’t think of anything else it would be though.

  • Zero

Well, the hacking bit is preventable. Nintendo can coordinate a system where only one code is given out to each game, and the codes can be checked to see if they have been redeemed or not.

And it doesn’t necessarily need to say Wii in the title for this to be true.

Also, I was just giving an example with the “1000 Wii points” bit. I know that’s overblown.

  • Rikuto

Well, i speak a bit of japanese. so if he were to get a screen shot or a picture of some sort with out glare on the tv I might be able to help out with that.

I dont know if site moderators have access to find out my email address. If not leave a message on here and I will check it regularly.

There are people saying that it’s ‘bonus content’ for games. You complete something, get a code, and unlock a new feature for the game.
    Possibly DLC?

  • gypsyOtoko

Really? There’s no one on here that reads Japanese?
Ok, well, after reading this post I updated my Wii, and first the following messages come up in the shope channel under updates:

New functions added to the “Everyone’s Nintendo Channel”

It then goes on to list the main new features:
    1. A saoftware information and movie search function has been implemented.
    2. Movies can now be stopped and played from different points.
    3. A new feacture has been added to software information.

It then explains how to download the channel, etc, etc.

The number input dealie you guys are talking about is the ‘Special software retrieval number input’ screen. The explanation is as such:

By the way, the Japanese Wii has a virtual bubble wrap popping game now. How ridiculously awesome is that? ^^’

Really? So its just a digital picture option? I don’t think this will make it to America.

  • http://wiinintendo.net/ hattrick

Well, that’s cool. Much better than just viewing/editing your pics on the Photo Channel (then not being able to do anything with them except send them to a friend’s Wii).

For the love of God! Mine isn’t a theory, as I’ve USED that feature:

In the Nintendo DS game: Diagasso Band Bros DX, (Japan), there’s an insert in the game box that has a 16-digit code.

Enter that code there, (Each code works only ONCE), and Ta-Da! The Wii Shop channel downloads the new(ish)…
SPEAKER Channel! To your wii, so that the music from your DS comes from your TV.

    Mystery solved.
