@xero:

I think the problem is not that E3 was used to focus on casual games, but rather that nothing of any interest to "core" gamers was announced. People take that as a sign that they've got nothing in the pipeline except a few gimmicks to sell more stupid peripherals.

There's plenty of nice hints of great games to come from other companies (e.g. Dead Rising, Fragile, CoD 5) but nothing to get people excited from Nintendo themselves. Wii Sports 2? OK, but hardly earth shattering. Animal Crossing? Meh. Wii Music? Maybe for the toddlers and grannies but not gamers. Hell, even a promise of a firmware update to allow USB pendrives would have been more exciting for most gamers than what we got.

@xero: Since Nintedo won't appear at GC either, there seems to be nothing to show. I hope for a nice TGS announcement.

I do like that he addressed the fact that a number of people were disappointed with the E3 show. It's a show of character that he can admit that they dropped the ball.

well, its seemed as though a lot of people have been misconstruing comments made my Miyamoto when he said that they are using E3 as a place to show the "casual" games. Many take this as "we're focusing on 'casual' games."

What he is actually saying is that the part of the population they are targeting with these types of games doesn't pay attention the way the core gamers do. E3 is (was) the one gaming convention that those who are more "casual" in their play are likely to read about.
Nintendo knows that the core are going to look for info and pay attention at the Leipzig GC in August no matter what was announced at E3 in June.

But back on subject, as much as I would love for them to go "oh yeah, there's this too." and show the first Zelda trailer from a 98% finished title that will be on the shelves in two months (imagine the surprise!), I also love starring at screen shots and wondering when the heck I'm gonna be able to play this game that looks so pretty and being annoyed but understanding (and sometimes a little more excited) when they announce the game is being delayed.

and, c'mon, if there is no Zelda announcement for another year.........*shudder* I don't even want to think about what would happen across the gaming community.....

can the internet break due to screaming and complaining?
