IGN’s Hands-on Impressions of Wii Music

null

Ever since I heard about the first demo years ago at E3, I have been waiting for Wii Music. Then, when Miyamoto opened an E3 conference by conducting the Zelda theme in Wii Music, I was ecstatic about the game. After today’s E3 conference, I’m not sure what to think. I am very excited that the game features many different instruments and seems like fun, but at the same time I’m disappointed that you basically pretend to play an instrument and the music will play. Well, the only way to tell is to play the game, but since we can’t do that, we’ll just have to live with some impressions of the title. I have summarized IGN’s hands-on preview with the game below.

  • No skill needed to play this game, it’s extremely easy.
  • When playing the saxophone, you can press the 1 or 2 buttons at any time to make notes play in the game. The d-pad is used to make your Mii do an on-stage animation.
  • For drums in multiplayer, the Nunchuk plays the snare, the Wii Remote plays the tom-toms, and if you hold A while swinging the Wii Remote, you’ll play the high hat.
  • The drum set in single player is more advanced, and uses the Wii Balance Board. The left foot uses the trap set, the right foot uses the bass pedal, and you swing your hands to swing the sticks. Pressing Z or B will have you hitting the tom-toms, C or A plays the cymbals, and holding left or right on the analog stick or d-pad lets you hit a deeper tom-tom.
  • IGN emphasizes the simple nature throughout their hands-on time.

Nintendo, why in the world did you not think to use Wii MotionPlus with Wii Music? It would have made perfect sense! Instead we have to pretend to play an instrument and press random buttons. I’m going to have to re-consider buying this title.

how much difference would the motionplus make? This’s supposed to be a easy fun multiplayer experience (part of it atleast) and forcing everyone get 4 of those motions+ would be rather contradicting… or something. :D

  • Charmy

Yeah, I’ll probably only give this a rent.

    I DON’T think it’s a matter of random buttons.
