Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero World Tour June 26, 2008

gh4 Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero World Tour

Rock Band for Wii came out on Sunday, and it’s a long-awaited title for Wii owners who are music simulation fans. Rock Band combines the fun guitar action of Guitar Hero with drum and vocal tracks, so you and your friends can form a virtual band and jam along to some great songs. However, the next Guitar Hero release, Guitar Hero World Tour, which for now is scheduled to come out on October 27, 2008, will also include drum and vocal simulations, and in many ways looks to be even more comprehensive and have more features than Rock Band.

The question is, which will you be buying (if any…or both).  I for one will be getting both, for no other reason than I’m obligated to the WiiNintendo.net community to buy and try everything, at least that’s the excuse I use on my wife ;) .

Wii Blog about it does a great job a breaking down each game kit, have a look and post in the comments what your plans are.

  • it hurts
ithink guitar hero wourld tour is better than rockband well rockband is good but i choose guitar hero wourld tour
  • myheadhurts
actually Rock Band 2 does have online play but I think its for 360 and Wii only.
  • myheadhurts
I have played both WT and Rock Band 2 there both amazing games I'm having trouble picking though I'm leaning more towards Rock Band 2. Those cymbals look breakable...
  • amiix
I actually have played rockband on 360 many many times at my brother's house and I LOVEEE IT...and have only played GHWT in the stores and i feel like it lags...it seems more challanging but i guess i like the graphics for RB a lot more. either way I just got my own wii and was trying to decide which of the 2 to get. and I think I want rockband but it sucks that it will have no WIFY. it's soo hard to ttry and get used to GH since I dont like it..but i guess it just takes getting used to it when you're so used to the other one. I dont know what i'm gonna do yet...we'll see.
  • @ shaquiza - Actually I have played Rock Band. It's ok, but I still prefer Guitar Hero.
  • shaquiza
um actually none of you losers have even tried rockband.
all of you guys are followers because you believe anything you hear.
"oh, guitar hero all the way dude!"
    shut and try rock band.
    it's awesome!

can anyone tell me will the rock band drums work with guitar hero wt?
  • abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
GHWT is better, but track listing SUCKS
  • Thank you all so much I currently have both of these games in unopened boxes I was saving one of them for a gift. You all have helped me to decide which one is going back to the store. Thank you so much for starting this site and thanks for all the input.

    Confused Mom

I say GH:WT. I played both at a gaming expo, and GH's new guitar doesnt feel crummy like Rock Bands. GH also had more skill to it, and a wider variety of songs. The only bad thing was the wireless controllers kept disconnecting (this was on a 360 btw)

I may just be GH biased, I dunno.
  • AdaM
Guitar Hero: World Tour in a heartbeat.

you know redoctane got it right...they've made quality controllers ever since GH1 (ive had my controller four years and it has never failed me after all of the bashings ive given it. on the subject of drums i know it wont be any different. rubber coated cymbals and pads make for less clanky, less faulty products. every single song on the GH:WT release list is a master track and the stereo problem is fixed. to be honest i've never had much of an issue with audio but i'm sure no one will complain after GHWT. i honestly dont care about the size of the songlist. i was more than happy with GH2's list when it came out and that only had 60 or so tracks including bonus songs. with DLC i wont even bothing thinking about rock band's list. i never liked the set in RB1 in the first place.

on matters of difficulty GH has always been on top. expert on RB looked like fast-paced medium in comparison to GH3. intuitive drum fillers will be great in GHWT and the touch bar looks to be running fine from the videos (imo a much more realistic experience to that of the second set of buttons in RB)

Basically if you want a better game buy GHWT. Activision worked their asses off making the wii version just as good as the PS3 and XBOX360 counterparts. i'm not going to be screwed over by harmonix, theyve been dead to me since the split with redoctane.

For wii, at least, GHWT will be something worth getting.
  • TMAC
i already pre ordered ghwt....and gh guitars are way more durable than rockbands cause real rockstars slam their guitars and trust me rockbands broke in half the first try and guitar hero well took about 4-5 times so its your choice
  • the big show
for all you idiots who bot rock band or pre ordered rock band 2 ........FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttcccccccccccccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeessssssssssssssss
  • ?????
ROCK BAND IS F****** S***. WT. ALL THE WAY
  • the big show
gh:wt all the way man!!!!!first, on utube rock band drums have 3 cymbols and 4 pads which is more than guitar hero right, but its an alternative way to play so theres still 4 pads vs. 5 pads. second, ozzy ozbourne and zakk wyled are characters and crazytrain and mr. crowley are songs in it!!! also theres a music studio were you can make your own songs and then post them online in gh tunes were the world can download them for free and wii dlc is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! + you can make your own album logo and instumints and characters and theres tons of great songs!!!gh all the way man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!sorry for bad spelling!
  • Josh
okaaayyy but thats gonna be a lot of plastic in your house! I for one am definetely getting guitar hero world tour considering how long i've waited so far and not gotten rock band
  • The Bear
Guitar Hero World Tour Wii: All the features that the Xbox 360 and ps3 has like, create a rocker and create a song, and downloadable content! finally a third-party game worth getting. I like rock band a little but it on wii is so devoid of features, and it is just more realistic and guitar hero has more experence.

so i am on guitar hero's side My band on Guitar hero world tour will be called Black Sun! se ya on wi fy!
  • Fatso
srry for doubling but i just had to throw something else in. Rockband 2 will also contain all master tracks [no covers in other words]. And when i wrote "wii to xbox" i meant the first one even though i referred to xbox360 the first time i wrote it. The new Rockband 2 drum set will be able to support three cymbal attachments. And thanks to all of those people who said that they would buy guitar hero and gave a reason. I'm tired of people saying that "rockband is a piece of crap GH forever!". Or something about how suckish the rockband guitars are because they have a different feel to them. If rockband came out before guitar hero we'd all be complaining about how it makes that stupid clicking noise every time you strum. I personally prefer the rockband peripherals
  • Fatso
hell i got rockband first day. no way im gunna get world tour with rockband 2 comin out later in the year and me needing to buy another drum set [where the hell would i keep two?]. And the ion drum rocker looks way better than activision's. Besides harmonix actually showcased rockband 2 at E3 and we wont need to go by interviews with activision to try to think about it. Who knows, maybe the wii wont be a downgrade piece of crap and have everything xbox and ps3 have. Comparing a game the forth in its series to the first of another is like comparing the wii to xbox.
  • Brandon
Hey is everyone forgetting that there is a new Rock Band coming out. And most web sites are giving it better review from E3 than Guitar Hero: World Tour.
  • Aranna
I bought Rockband for Wii, and let me tell you, bad idea. First of all, the guitar stopped working after 3 weeks, and today we ordered a new one. Apparently, there have been many problems with the guitars. Aside from the faulty guitar, the ports USB ports are terrible. One of them is bent out of shape for no reason, and this damaged the drum's cord. It was stupid of me to get Rockband when I was aware that GHWT would be released later this year. I say go with Guitar Hero.
  • xcrusher
i got rockband for the wii the first day it came out and i knew bout gh4 so imgettin both cause i save my muny
  • who cares
    sry play
  • who cares
for me its rock band.why , because it provides more people to plat and no tacking turns (if more than 4 people). on the other hand you dont need the actual gitar , you can use ur controller. at the end they both add up to the same (in some ways).

thx for reading, and not going away,
    -who cares-
  • corey
rock band is more family/friends while GH is more skill.
  • GBL
Hi, I'm the author of this post from Wii Blog About It. Thanks for linking to me. I've just started up this blog, so please keep checking back because I'll be adding new stuff all the time. My latest entry includes video of my dog freaking out at Wii Sports.

There's a small chance I'll get Rock Band for my birthday next week, but if not I'm definitely going to wait for Guitar Hero.

    @xero
Thanks for catching the cymbals typo. Stupid oversight on my part. It's been fixed.
  • Guitar Hero looks awesome, while I keep hearing Rock Ban was more of a disappointment. I've only played it a bit, but what I've played seems much easier and not as fun. The only thing is that it's different with the vocals and drums. But GHWT seems to be perfecting that and going much further. I'm not sure about buying it just yet, only because it's a lot of money for all the peripherals and the game...but we'll see.
  • DASMASHA
I already own Rock Band for the 360, I was really disappointed when I heard how much the wii version lacks. I will be getting Guitar Hero World Tour but only because I buy every guitar hero. Since I have a 360 I'll be getting it for that system. I think the drums look awesome, more innovative than rock band's. I will definitely have to cough up the cash to buy guitar hero and I feel confident they wont screw it up. They really seem to be serious about it. When I buy guitar hero world tour and get the new guitar I will finally have 2 guitars compatible with Rock Band and Guitar hero WT (first one is from GH2 for 360). I hate the rock band guitar. I am a true guitar hero veteran, but I will never put away rock band.
  • Rod
    Guitar Hero, no question.
  • Kevin
I have Rock Band for 360, simply because all my friends have 360s. We love playing online and just being able to go to eachother's houses to play together. I'm probably going to get GH:WT for 360 too, just because of the crappy ports that the Wii has.
  • Sir Lantis
The decision is totally controlled by the European pricing. I will NOT pay more for a game than the console is worth. So I hope, that Activision does it the right way.
  • Mack2D2
Rockband is a joke... I said it a long time ago and I'm gonna stick to it, we NEED to stop supporting these half arsed attempts at developing games for the Wii. Rockband is just a PS2 port, and we should not give these piles of dung anymore of our money.

The Guitar Hero developers went out and figured out a solution to the downloadable content mess, and I commend them for that... I will definitely be getting World Tour before I even remotely consider Rockband. I'm personally offended that Rockband was released the way it was to be honest, it's a slap in the face to Wii owners. Also, Rockband's guitar is HORRIBLE... I tried it at a Fred Meyer (wal-mart type store for those that don't know) and it was just insanely akward and BAD. If Guitar Hero tops their drumset as well as they topped their guitar, then the instruments will even be far superior for GH:WT in comparison to RB.

Sorry for the novel... just tired of games like Madden and Rockband giving us lame, limited titles that look and play like a PS2 game... to quote Peter from Family Guy, "That really sticks in my craw."
  • Luke
    Guitar hero all the way.

I would think New wii owners would get RockBand instead.
  • xero
ok, just because it bugs the crap out of me every time i read it, those shiny loud things attached to a drum set are called "cymbals," not "symbols"

But anyway, GH all the way!
  • esp2000
I am not going to bother with Rock Band. I am going to wait for Guitar Hero as this has the online features that I am looking for. I could have lived without the DLC, but to have no online play at all was the deciding factor for me to pass on the game.
  • z3r0
    Guitar Hero WT obviously
  • Jhonyb
Ill be waiting for guitar hero, rock band seems a waste of money and space...
  • jr
guitar hero. rock band wii is a joke. no way i'll buy that on wii.
