EA Sports to develop Peripherals June 26, 2008
While talking about the future of EA Sports at the Paris GDC, David McCarthy (Vice President of EA Sports) mentioned that he believes peripherals are a great thing for the gaming community, as long as they do not “raise that barrier of entry and accessibility.” McCarthy repeatedly mentioned the success of rythm games and their peripherals, specifically Rockband… pointing out that they are great peripherals but are a risk because of the high price tag. By the end of the discussion, McCarthy let loose with “you’ll see games using that Rock Band peripheral stragegy from EA Sports, even within the next 12 months.”
What do you guys think we’ll be seeing? Personally, I have a huge distaste for EA Sports, but if they brought in a helmet with head tracking for a first-person style of play in Madden… that would be pretty dang awesome. Most probably though, I would expect that we’re looking at plastic golf clubs and tennis rackets if the overall plan is not to “raise that barrier of entry” with a high cost. Anyone want to speculate?
