They take away some of the realism, add all these crazy physics and revolutionize all the sports games and make them way more fun. Look at Strikers for example, it's a lot quicker than the average soccer game and you can do stuff like turn giant in it, in a normal soccer game there's always the shooting delay because of how the players' feet are positioned. I love what Nintendo does with sports games.
