WiiFit rated below LostWinds

If you’re a strict follower of MetaCritic code, then you’ll find a pleasant surprise in their current (5/23/08 9:24am pst) Wii game ratings.  LostWinds, the 1000 point ($10) WiiWare title is currently rated 81… while WiiFit, the $89 fitness game with a balance board, is rated 80. The highest critic score for LostWinds is 100, while the highest critic score for WiiFit is 91.

I’m not trying to trash WiiFit, but for those of you waiting for a price drop or more information from the masses, it looks like LostWinds is generally giving a bit more satisfaction for your buck right now. Personally, I exercise a rule I call the Price Rating Rule: If the metacritic rating is lower than the cost of the game, I don’t buy the game.

I use Metacritic as a rough guide, and it’s very useful. In this case though, the difference in rating is hardly surprising. Wii Fit isn’t really a game, it’s a fitness motivator with only a few minigames that fit into the realm of “gaming” in its traditional sense. It’s expensive because there’s a heavy peripheral included.

Lost Winds on the other hand is a videogame in the most traditional sense of the term. it’s a well programmed, easy to pick up game with depth and very enjoyable to play. These two games could not be more different.

It’s apples and oranges. If you’re comparing these two products dirctly in any way, you’re foolish. Wii Fit’s price will eventually drop, but you’ll never be able to buy it for the same price because of the cost of the balance board.

Both games are worth every penny. In fact I would even argue Wii Fit better for replay-ability. You can play Wii Fit over and over…but Lost Winds is beatable in 2.5 hours. GORGEOUS game, and very innovative Wii controls…just short.

And I wouldn’t count on a Wii Fit price drop for a LONG time. Supply and demand.

Dude…that’s a ridiculous rule. But whatever, it’s just your opinion.

And a Wii Fit price drop?? I just sold one of my extra ones last night for $120. They’re rare as hell, here.

Wiifit in the US just makes me lol. The only way I see gamers in the US liking WiiFit is if its a game that can make you forget your working out (DDR).

I wasn’t suggesting they were the same game, or even that the price SHOULD be dropped… I was just stating my personal tastes and opinions on pricing. I’m just not the type to throw 90 bucks on a game right now, and I think like many other people, until other games are actually released (besides We Ski) that make use of the balance board, I’ll remain skeptical of it’s value. I know a good amount of games are announced that will make use of the balance board, but they’re not here yet… that’s all. My main point of the post was to point out something that I found humorous… $10 game rated higher than a $90 game.
