VC: Capcom blames Nintendo

In a recent interview about the new 3D Bionic Commando and Bionic Commando Rearmed, some of the big wigs at Capcom said that the new games won’t be finding their way onto WiiWare, due to a lack of storage space… but more importantly, they also pointed fingers at Nintendo for the lack of Bionic Commando and Megaman on the virtual console.

Capcom head of public relations Chris Kramer has said that Capcom does not control what appears on the Virtual Console, Nintendo does.  Nintendo owns the licensed rights to their games.  Basically, Capcom has no control over the appearance of their games on Virtual Console.  While Capcom does share in the profit when their games are sold on VC, the entire decision of what games are offered is made entirely by Nintendo.  From the sound of it, Capcom is not the only developer who has a deal like this worked out with Nintendo.

Some of you may remember the bloody exploding head of a Hitler type end-boss (and for those that don’t, there’s a video for it above), and while I can see that as a valid reason to keep Bionic Commando off VC for at least a little while… It’s hard to comprehend why we haven’t seen more Megaman.  This license news also begs the question of whether or not Rare has a similar deal with Nintendo, putting the ability in their hands to provide 007:GoldenEye…

Well… Nintendo is at the top of the game industry again, and it seems like their monopolistic attitudes are making a return.
