My favorite Zelda game April 24, 2008
There are a few things I consider when deciding my favorite game in a franchise. I like to add in the nostalgia factor a lot. That doesn’t only mean old games. That can mean how I will look back on a recent game. I also kind of tend to like what everybody else likes least. For example, my favorite Mario game (behind 64) is 2. Yeah I am a jackass for that but I love it nonetheless. I don’t think that would be the case here though. Music has a big impact too. A memorable musical score is a memorable game. Story isn’t really a big thing for me. However, memorable moments are a big factor.
A Link to the Past
This is probably the first game that actually gave me chills. Going to pick up the master sword with the forest theme in the background was my first memorable moment in a game. Here’s a video of someone doing it.
The game really just flows. You never get a dull moment and anytime you want to stray from main quest, there was always an easter egg or side quest a few screens away. Every song in the game is a classic. They always fit so well in every situation. The temples have such eerie music and it really sets the mood.
Back in the day this game was great looking. It still looks great. Not until Twilight Princess did I feel a Zelda game could compare in terms of the art direction.
By today’s standard I would give this bad boy a 9.5 out of 10. Yeah…it’s that good.
