A rumor says that Nintendo will be announcing a new version of its off the charts hit Nintendo DS.

Enterbrain boss Hirokazu Hamamura guesses that Nintendo is announcing a new Nintendo DS portable console at E3 2008. The E3 Media Summit 2008 is taking place in LA on July 15 – 17, 2008.

The DS Lite has been on the market since March 2006.  There is room for improvement on the technical capabilities of the DS. The screen technology used on the DS is outdated. The media capabilities are just not there. The question of course is if more is just needed, or is it? The gaming fun of the Nintendo DS is way up there.

  • thank you for sharing Congratulations on a very beautiful designed site
  • do you know any information about this subject in other languages?
  • Yeah, weren't they supposed to come out with some sort of motion-sensing stylus or something for DS? That would be funny though.

I'm also curious if they'll add bluetooth, perhaps a slot 2 adapter for the previous models. With that, it can surely connect to Wii rather than using the WiFi.

Maybe they're readying up for GameBoy [VC] downloads? \:D/

i'm hoping its a new ds w/ updated graphics, possibly ds 2 or something crazy like that. would be cool if they integrated gyros into the ds like wii remotes. ...

I'd love to see a DS that could play mp3's, vid's, and show jpg's without having to use third party paripherals. One more thing I'd like to see, or rather not see, is a glossy finish. I hate that about my DS.
  • GameStop buys used systems and games.

The current DS Lite can still last another year. I'd say they'd bring a new peripheral, most likely a TV adapter for USA region or a support for VoIP client.

But if they are announcing a new model, I'm sure it would be more solidified: hard glass touchscreen, and whole body, etc.

I traded my old DS in for my DS lite at a Game Crazy. I'm not sure why a Gamestop would not do this. Might be more than 50 bucks though...depends on how much the new one is I guess.
  • like you send them your old DS and they would send you a new DS for a charge of like say 50 dollars (through mail or a game retailer like Gamestop or EB games)
