Snaking removed from Mario Kart Wii

mario kart wii

We’ve heard that the boosting was quite different in the latest edition of Mario Kart, but it still wasn’t confirmed that snaking was gone altogether. Well, according to Official Nintendo Magazine (UK)’s review, snaking is a thing of the past. Here’s a portion of their review…

The second big difference (in Mario Kart Wii compared to the rest of the series) is the removal of snaking. Ever since the N64 game, practically every Mario Kart game has included the ability to get a speed boost by waggling the controls left and right as you powerslide. This has finally been scrapped, and now your speed boost is determined by how long you can hold the slide.

Why do I have the feeling that players will find a way around this!?

I was gonna post this when i got the mag the other day but I forgots V__V

I don’t see how they could find a way around it. It takes a certain amount of time. I suppose they technechly could snake but only as fast as the game would let them. Depends if it has something built in that only lets you drift round corners.

Personally I think anyone who complains about snaking either can’t do it or is playing mariokart online for the wrong reasons. If you want to have a fun uncompetative time play it with your mates.
Snaking isn’t cheating. And it does require skill.

snaking on the DS was so OP though, and don’t forget nintendo are geared toward these “casual” gamers, who got raped by snakers so bad on MKDS (and mk64, but thats another story)

Man, I hate to see this go. Sure, it gave experienced players an edge, but isn’t that an advantage of being a more experienced player?

Well, getting a boost for holding the slide longer works just as well I guess. No more people getting boosts by basically snaking their way around every little curb.
