the simExhange

This is a way overdue article.

The simExchange, over a year into its beta phase, is a simulated stock market where investors buy and sell stock in… games?!

Yep, games. The value of the stock is a prediction of the game’s lifetime sales. For example, right now Smash Bros. Brawl’s value of 1,433.18 DKP (dragon kill points, the market’s currency) per share forcasts about 14.33 millions copies sold in its lifetime. But, as more good news comes out about Brawl, investors are bidding higher for their shares in this hot stock.

The simulated market also features a Metacritic score market. Brawl’s metacritic stock is at 95.67 right now, forecasting a 96 Metacritic score. Seems too high? Stay away! Seems too low? BUY BUY BUY!

There is no real money involved in the simExchange; each player starts off with 1,000,000 DKP to go wild with. Careful consideration in trades will help you to multiply this number many times. If you weren’t so careful, no worries. You get 25,000 DKP time trust every 24 hours, and you can’t spend all your money at once anyways.

This is an interesting, and sometimes addicting site if you are interested in the stock market or video games. I recommend it to those of you who wish to try your hand at either.

shouldn’t it be: “This is an interesting, and sometimes addictive site.”?
Is addicting even a real word?

    ad·dict

    TRANSITIVE VERB:
    ad·dict·ed , ad·dict·ing , ad·dicts
To cause to become physiologically or psychologically dependent on a habit-forming substance: The thief was addicted to cocaine.
To occupy (oneself) with or involve (oneself) in something habitually or compulsively: The child was addicted to video games.

Addicting basically means “to cause an addiction”

O.K. So it is a real word. But in the context of the sentence he was attempting to use the word as an adjective, not a transitive verb. Which means that he really should have used addictive, but who cares.

Sounds like a cool site. might just check it out!

@Jesse Divinich, how do we get that set up?

Thank you for the tip, Jesse.
Also, Prune, verbs ending in -ing are often used as adjectives; A “drinking” problem, my “running” exercise, an “addicting” game.
