Make your own songs to play with GH3 Wii Guitar January 12, 2008

I don’t know why I haven’t posted this on WiiNintendo yet, but I’ve been doing this for months and I finally realized that I never posted about this on here… so, here is my quick start guide to getting you playing any song of your choice with your Guitar Hero III Wii guitar.
This is for Windows, if you’d like to set this up on OS X or Linux go to our forums and I’ll be glad to help you out.
All you need:
- Bluetooth enabled computer (if your cpu doesn’t have it you can buy an adapter)
- Guitar Hero III Guitar
- Wiimote
Next, we’ll need to download the folowing:
Download Frets on Fire (Guitar Hero like game):
http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/
Download GlovePie 0.30 (allows your wiimote/guitar to talk to your PC):
http://carl.kenner.googlepages.com/glovepie_download
Download SoundForge (converts any audio into .ogg format):
http://www.mybittorrent.com/info/1093637/

After you downloaded everything open GlovePie 0.30 and launch it, you’ll need to run the “Wii Guitar” script, this little piece of code will allow your Guitar Hero III Wii Guitar “talk” with the game Frets on Fire. You’ll be able to navigate the menus and use the guitar just as if you were playing GH3. Copy and paste the following into GlovePie and hit “run”:
GlovePie Script:
wiimote.leds= 9
keyboard.f1= wiimote.Classic.a
keyboard.f2= wiimote.Classic.b
keyboard.f3=wiimote.Classic.x
keyboard.f4= wiimote.Classic.y
keyboard.f5= wiimote.Classic.ZLkeyboard.return = wiimote.Classic.up
keyboard.rightshift = wiimote.Classic.downkeyboard.esc= wiimote.classic.minus
keyboard.esc= wiimote.classic.pluskeyboard.up = wiimote.classic.joy1Y<= – 25%
keyboard.down= wiimote.classic.joy1Y>=25%
keyboard.left= wiimote.classic.joy1X<= -25%
keyboard.right= wiimote.classic.joy1X>=25%
Once you have this script running in GlovePie, you can launch Frets on Fire and control it with your Wii guitar (just like GH3). You can now import any song you like and set the red, green, yellow, blue, orange frets to match you song using the song editor built into Frets on Fire. You’ll just need to do one last thing:
Adding your own music file/song into Frets on Fire:
- Open SoundForge (which you downloaded above), import a .wav, .mp3, .aiff, etc… then go to export and choose the .ogg format.
- Import the .ogg file into Frets on Fire (launch FoF and select import)
- Exit the FoF .exe and open your Frets on Fire folder install directory and go to data>songs
- Rename your audio file “song.ogg” (without the quotes) and put it in the directory
- Paste it into the folder once more. Rename this file “guitar.ogg” (without the quotes)
your directory should look like this
Now, you can go into your song editor via Frets on Fire and place the notes where you want (Excitebike esq.).
That’s it! (For more advance instructions, go here)
