The Talismoon Retractable Sensor Wiire

Total Console was kind enough to send us the new Talismoon Retractable Sensor Wiire. This particular product was of great interest to me and I couldn’t wait to see if would be a quality item.

I tend to bring my Wii with me a lot and have always found the sensor bar to be a pain in the ass to bring along. I have two sided tape (the thick tape) holding down my sensor on top of my TV and anytime I bring it somewhere I have to rip it off my TV, untangle it, and wrap up the 90 foot wire.

After getting the sensor bar all ready to go I always have a problem fitting it in my bag. I always save the sensor bar for last because it’s so long, fragile, and I usually need wedge it somewhere safe. Also, to be honest, I’ve actually forgotten to bring the sensor bar with me twice… for some reason I overlook the sensor bar as part of the TV. I think that’s because I have it so tightly fastened and since I grab it last I end up forgetting it.

Anyway, I really like the concept of a retractable sensor bar, here’s how it stacked up:

The Sensor Wiire is REALLY tiny. I was actually really surprised how small it was. The Sensor Wiire is at least 1/4 the size of the regular sensor. It can easily fit in a side pocket/pouch. The reason it’s so small is because they eliminate the entire middle section (which doesn’t hold the sensors) and made the wire that plugs into your Wii retractable (much like a tape measure).

Performance-wise it works great. There is no difference between the Sensor Wiire and the regular sensor bar.

I do have two gripes though:

1.) The retractable wire works most of the time, but 20% of the time it would bunch up and require me to tug at it. (sorta like a stubborn window shade…I hate those things)

2.) The wire to your Wii is about 2 feet long. Technically, this is a gripe I would make because I have never been in a situation where I needed anything longer. I added this because I know a lot of people will find this a draw back.

Overall, this is definitely a recommended item for anyone who travels with their Wii. I would also recommend this to anybody looking to have a second sensor bar around for backup or for another TV in the house.

Some bullet points from the manufacturer:

* Fits anywhere!
* Fully adjustable – for use close up or far away
* Clever “Pack and Go” design
* Suitable for use away from home, including at hotels, show cars, and in recreational vehicles
* Ultra compact, completely compatible with Wii.

For less than 20 bucks, go get it if any of this review/rant hit home with you: Total Console

That really does look promising, I seldom go places with anything more then a portable console like the DS… But things like this are starting to blur the line more & more between home & portable units… This is really neat…

is the pointer negatively affected if you place the two sensors too close together or too far apart? I would assume triangulation calculations are dependent on knowing how far apart those two sensors are…

    Or is close good enough?
