I know there will be those who say "IZ MONEYZ, NOT FANZ" but I believe firmly that Nintendo is better than that. Over the years they've been proven themselves to be very responsive to their fans and have had more than enough chances to take this crappy approach. Why they decide now of all times to do it, I can't fully explain. But it's a damn shame it is.
