Interactive Whiteboards Using the Wiimote

YouTube Preview Image

Since the Wiimote can track sources of infrared (IR) light, you can track pens that have an IR led in the tip. By pointing a wiimote at a projection screen or LCD display, you can create very low-cost interactive whiteboards or tablet displays. Since the Wiimote can track upto 4 points, multiple pens can be used.

    how much does bluetooth cost?

  • FourTails

So all I have to do is get a bluetooth adapter, point my wiimote at the screen after connecting it, and then I can use IR pens as a mouse?

  • scullum2001

cool, but how do you get that 4 touch point callibration thing?

  • Wishale

the bluetooth USb adapters can be bought for around $5
the four point touc etc can be found at the guys website.

    I’m thinking about doing this.

  • Flyingsheep

    I think I’m doing this.

    I did it.
Its pretty cool, unfortunatly I dont have a projector so I just had to use my laptop screen.

The only problem i encountered was that the IR LED that I used had a very narrow viewing angle, so the Wiimote had difficulty seeing it unless the LED was turned around (I simply bent the LED so that it was facing away from the pen).

So if you going to make an IR torch yourself try and get wide angle LED’s.

Or you can stick the IR LED on the end of the IR pen. Shouldn’t matter since it’ll get calibrated.
