No More Heroes or No More Blood?

Europe I am so sorry . Y’all are having a bad week. Hopefully this is the last sad news you’ll get for awhile. It has been confirmed that the Euro version of No More Heroes will not feature blood. Instead, it will be the same as the Japanese version. You can see what the Euro version looks like in the video above.

Rising Star Games, the Euro publisher, was asked if this decision was made due to the BBFC’s response to Manhunt 2. While RSG didn’t give a lengthy answer, their one word response of “Maybe” is all too telling.

Maybe I’m just gettin too old now or something, but I don’t see how “no blood” in a game makes it worse or how we should be sorry that a certain group of people doesn’t get blood in their game. Shouldn’t it be based on gameplay? Not whether there’s blood or not… Just my thoughts, but I know many of you will probably have some different opinion and say I’m too much of a grown-up or something…

I agree ,but I think it’s weird that they would take it out.
For me I could care less ,but for many I know it’s a big deal.
Do you know what I’m saying?

Yeah, but I know why they’d take it out. Same reason they took the blood out of Mortal Kombat for SNES. It makes it less realistic. And in a game like this, where it could easily be used as a “well, I learned it in a video game” type of situation, I think anything that makes it less realistic might be a good thing. But what do I know…

While it’s not a deal-breaker for me, the lack of gore is disappointing. As a horror movie fan over the age of 30, I consider games based on their gameplay and content like any other gamer. However, the issue here is that there is gore in the game that’s been taken out for arbitrary reasons. This is a big issue because 1) it’s censorship and 2) it’s apparantly not a global decision. I resent being dictated to by people who are still under the delusion that gaming is for children especially when I, as a consumer, am being told where I can and cannot buy by games (i.e. because of the technically pointless region coding, I can’t buy the US version if I want my blood).

It’s nothing to do with how “grown-up” you are, it’s just about how I want to be able to play a gory game occasionally in the same way that I can watch a gory movie or read a gory book without restrictions.

Shit! Why we always suffer more than others? ^_^

@ PaulT – I understand your point(s), and in an ideal world, maybe things would work that way. But the truth is that we have children that get their hands on these adult games (and movies for that matter) too easily these days. I applaud the game companies who try to make it a little less realistic (although with a game like this, I don’t really understand how no blood would affect much). However, I do agree that if they do it for one, they should do it for all. And I also agree with the region stuff, but that’s another story. haha Yeah, I don’t think I’m too old (a mere 25 tomorrow), but I’ve just been more in tune with the youth culture and how media in general is chipping away little by little…

    Another good point.
In No More Heroes the blood in it is artistic manga stale anyway (Well the Japan version)so it’s not to look realistic. Anyway for me I don’t care if it has blood or doesn’t it’s not that big of a deal.

and yes bad movies and games are way to accessible for the younger market.

yeah let´s censor the manga blood but keep the 300 times they say fuck and all other verbal abuse, porn etc, yeah I think this game is great for a kid now.. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!?

  • Peter

I played through the game with out knowing that the American version featured blood, and i don’t think it would have change my wiew on the game… but i think they’ve could have at least given us a on and off button for the blood
