Ubisoft: We’re making better games for the Wii November 9, 2007

After some more then lacklustre ports, rushed games and child-oriented titles, Ubisoft has announced that it is currently working towards producing Nintendo-quality products for the Wii console.
“[Nintendo’s mass market strategy] is very profitable for Nintendo, and very profitable for all third-party publishers. Because [the strategy] is working, we create more product [for Nintendo platforms] and this will actually bring more people into the industry. The Wii is going to continue to do extremely well with no limit to growth.”
- Yves Guillemot, president of Ubisoft.
He also revealed that Ubisoft currently has 400-500 people dedicated to Wii development at the moment and reckons 2008 will see Ubisoft creating “Nintendo-like quality” on the system.
Chief Finance Officer, Alain Martinez, added that the Nintendo DS has also boosted Ubisoft considerably thanks to the relatively low development costs of games on that format. This has led to a situation where the company can achieve profitability from just 100,000 units sold, in comparison to a PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 title that needs to sell around 1,300,000.
